I often hear my piggie grinding her teeth?!?!?! Like she's chewing but on nothing. What does this mean?

Teeth grinding can be a pain indicator! Has she done this for a while?

Yes i think so. But I've also heard it can be a way of talking to me (she doesn't wheek anymore) or a comfort noise?

Although they don't have pouches like hamster guinea pigs often have a bit of food stored in there mouth. I very often see my piggys sat chewing on what seems like nothing

A scissor like noise is indicative of a pig sharpening it's teeth when it knows veggies are coming. While cuddling, some piggies will grind their teeth to warn you that they want to wee and they need to go back to their cage rather than wee on you. (some piggies just don't care and wee on you anyway).

Oh ok maybe then because she rarEly wees on me. Also could it be achey joints as she's old?

Sometimes old pigs develop arthritis. Does she seem to have any issues with moving?

It sounds as though she may have arthritis and could be in some pain, have you been to the vets to get some pain relief like metacam? That would definitely help as she's an older lady :)

She has no problems moving at all. Would it be best to still give her a weak pain relief in case of achey joints?

Have you got a piggy savvy vet? Without an assessment it would be impossible to tell what's causing the pain therefore be impossible to suggest a dosage.

I would recommend that you take her to a vet. If she's old she may have arthritis and /or joint pain. Only a vet can diagnose and prescribe the correct pain relief

Oh of course haha.
I would see a vet then then can see if she needs pain relief. At 8 yrs you are a fantastic piggie slave.
Thank you :) for one of my first piggies I'm proud to have her this long. She's my world.
