So last night one of my piggies (I got them finally! I'll have to post pictures and their stories soon inbreeding) was making this random noise that I can only describe as teeth grinding. Do guinea pigs normally grind teeth? And what does it mean? Thanks in advance :)

Was it teeth chattering? If so this normally indicates anger or them being upset at something. Looking forward to seeing photo's of your piggies. What are their names?

Guinea pigs do not usually grind their teeth but it can be a sign of pain. If you mean just chewing then this is what they do all the time to help keep their teeth down.

No, it wasn't teeth chattering (I've definitely heard that with my one really dominant piggie)
I'm planning on doing a poll with the names I've come up with along with their photos :)

Chewing? Like without food in their mouth (Just like rubbing their teeth together)? I had a cockatiel who would beak grind to keep it down so I guess kind of the same concept..

P.S. How do you guys do two quotes from two different members on the same post? Thanks ")

They always chew without food in their mouths. That is just piggies.

Mine do it as a sign of annoyance, like when I'm not quick enough with the veggies they lean out of the cage making a grinding sound lol

lol! :(|)
Or when i pick Fuzzy up from behind the tv for the 100th time in half an hour, he makes a grinding sound at me...:p

I get the grinding when I'm about to feed and they are waiting.. I always thought it was them 'prepping' their little faces for the feast.. maybe to get the salivary glands going and clear their mouth out of overchewed hay :P

They stop as soon as they get strokes or noms!
