Not sure if I'm in the right section, but does it make a difference what brand it is? I have this one by Woodwards, alcohol and sugar free.

Yes that is a reputable gripe water ,but doses for pigs :hmm:perhaps guinea linx may know ?

@helen105281 what dosage do you recommend?

I have been giving up to 0.3 ml about three times a day to my Ffraid who suffered from repeated mostly minor bloating episodes in the last couple years of her life, especially in the last year. I found that she reacted best to gripe water. I used the same brand.

Thanks both of you! Minja was diagnosed as gas from what I remember, and the vet did say she felt like she had gas when they had a look as well. I would like to give Minja a dose or two before it comes up again as I can see that happening. She's had gas in the past as well so I'd like to try and settle it down a bit before it comes back at full power, is that okay?

Yes. You can try and see whether it makes a difference. In a full-out acute case, I would still use zantac/ranitidine.

PS: I spoke to my vet about using gripe water for Ffraid, and he was OK with this.

PS2 for general purposes: Gripe water doesn't work for liquid bload/blockage, so it should not be used on spec in cases of suspected bloat and to avoid a vet trip! This can be a potentially fatal mistake.

Thanks. Is there any place I can get Zantac? And I won't use it for anything else but the original use, so no worry :D I'll try it now as I'm getting concerned it'll come back now she's going to have some veg again after a few days.

No, you may need a prescription for that, but you can ask your treating vet whether he would prescribe you a small amount to be able to treat asap in case the gassy bloat hits again to bridge the time until you can make an appointment. Many vets are OK with this when treating for a reoccurring problem.

Thank you, I'll try that.

So it's ok to give her gripe water? I'm only going to do it once or twice and leave it unless the gas coms back again (which I will call the vet for advice).

Use gripe water when you know that there is some gassing going on, otherwise don't.

Ok. She's just had 0.2 ml, but I didn't see your last post. Should I give another 0.1 or 0.2 ml?

Edit; Thanks for moving the thread, this was just going to be a question about the brand at first.

Leave it at 0.2 ml and don't give more.

PS: I have moved your thread from Chat to health and illness, as it is a medical issue.

Also, I'm glad the gripe water is in her now. I can feel the gas more prominently now :( I'll get a snuggle safe and toothbrush ready. Should I give her veg? She had pellets a few minutes ago and now I'm wondering if it was a good idea to do so.
