Hi I wonder if anyone can help please? I am a New Guinea pig owner with two young Guinean pigs (5/6 months old) who really do not like to be held! The thought of bathing and trimming their fur is so daunting as they would not keep still. Does anyone know of any groomers in or around liverpool that we could use please?
thank you very much.

Hi I’m a new owner in Liverpool too. We got our two girls from pets at home rehoming. They’re very skittish and aren’t used to being handled. As such I’m having a terrible time trying to clip their nails, they’re now curling. Did you find a guinea pig groomer in Liverpool? This would be just what we need! Thanks very much :)

Welcome to the forum.
Guinea pigs rarely need bathing. Long haired piggies whose bums get messy occasionally need a wash.
I do it my self with my walking wig, in the bath so she’s safe and a shallow dish for water.
There is an excellent guide to trimming fur written by forum member @Betsy .
Again, short haired piggies usually don’t need grooming.
With my long furred girl, I just keep her bum fur short and her skirts if they are too long.
My skills are seen in the reaction of my husband who flatly refused to let me anywhere near him with a pair of scissors during lockdown.
Priscilla has had some funky styles in her time.

A vet nurse will trim the nails, and could also show you how to do it.
Bit of a rambly post, but hope it helps.
Skittish pigs need time and patience.

Here is my guide for you. It covers all aspects of cavy coiffure! I hope you find it useful.

Please note that The Ever Beautiful Betsy took a good few years to stand so beautifully for her haircuts. First of all she would run around with only half of her clipped for a few days until she had calmed down enough to let me trim the other half. It was definitely a 2 person job first of all. She is now nearly 6 and is used to having a hair cut.

Hi!

Try our guinea pig whispering tips to help settle them in and understand where they are coming from. They are surprisingly effective. There are no official guinea pig groomers.
Don't aim at getting the job done in one go; do it bit by bit if you are doing it at home.

Hi, I know you posted this a while back but I've recently just took in 2 guinea pigs and their previous owner didnt look after their nails and they've started to curl. Did you manage to find any groomers around Liverpool?
