I have 2 rex guineas and 2 that will be long haired eventually and I have a few questions about keeping them looking clean and tidy.

What would be the best tools for bathing and grooming them?

What shampoo should I use? I have a feeling Lilly (white rex ) is going to need it :)) especially if her slightly red pepper stained chops are anything to go by.

I use a comination of a comb and slicker brush with our cocker spaniel and I have seen smaller versions of both for rabbits and guinea pigs. Are they any good?

p.s. I hope I have posted in the right place :red

Hiya
I also have had Rex piggies, I used a small animal comb to gently comb them but mostly used a very soft brush, in fact I used an old baby brush as it was really soft. Not sure what a slicker is, but I wouldn't use one of those brushes that has lots of spikey needle type things they are far too sharp for piggies rolleyes

thank you. I picked up a cat brush with really soft nylon bristles. It's very gentle and seems to be working quite well for now :)

I like the gorgeous guinea shampoos. I have one long haired piggy and the best thing is to keep their back end hair short - otherwise it ends up soaked all the time - not nice rolleyes.
I have a brush set with a small slicker, bristle brush, comb and scissors (with blunt ends) - I do use them all but I also use my wide toothed dog comb which has rotating teeth and is very gentle on her - its better than the piggy comb by far. The slicker brush I only use on ends - ie I dont run it down her body really (although I think it looks worse than it is). The scissors are handy as they are so small (and can do nails too) and the blunt ends help if she moves.... in fact I used them on my dogs ears today.....
Might be just trial and error to see what works best for you,

As a dog groomed I use slicker brushes a lot. They are sharp but if used correctly then they are not a problem, the trick is to roll the whole pin through the hair rather than just drag it through. This ensures that slicker burn is prevented. I have a small one for piggy use.

i had 2 long haired piggies i used to keep their hair round the bottom short as it used to get damp and in the nice weather give them a trim all over they look daft at first but soon starts to blend in, dylan never got used to being groomed. I used gorgeous guineas posh and go for my long haired as he was white round his bum and it used to go a little yellow.
