Hello,
I am new here and this is my first time owning piggies. I have two sows, not sure their age other than they are younger. My Mochi is sweet, a little shy, and likes attention, but my Yuki girl is a grouch she rumbles, chatters her teeth, and bites when I hold her. I am gentle with both of them, give them the same amount of interaction, and have tried holding close and just putting on my lap with Yuki. I am not sure of her background so I dont know if there was abuse. I have heard that it's not good to stop handling them but the biting is making it hard. Any suggestions? Would she be happier if I handled her less?

Welcome!
My eldest piggy doesn't like too much attention either. She used to be pretty nippy when I first got her but I just learnt patience and was always making sure I was in their area. So, when they were in the yard, house or their cage I would make sure to always dangle my hands in so they could smell me, and talk softly to them. When they were on my lap I would always have a treat just to confirm that they were in a safe space with me.

Like humans, I believe all animals have their personalities and some are just not as cuddly as others and you need to respect this. I think the biting can definitely be changed but there's always a piggy wanting more attention then another so don't feel too hurt. Also, depending on her age she could be maturing and feeling frisky which makes them a little more nuts! :xd:

Good luck and send photos of your babies when you can.

It’s okay that your guinea pig doesn’t want to be held. They are not the cuddliest animals that the internet makes them out to be. Some like to cuddle, some prefer not to. Mine are fine either way. They like being picked up (but will run) but don’t like to be held. Don’t feel guilty if your not always holding them - just let them do their thing. :)
