having had my lot in emergency housing in runs in my living room...
the 2 pairs of boys have been in a run which i have sectioned off with a wire pannel... they sit either side of the pannel and snuggle up... 2 are 10 months old... the other two are 3 and 4 months old....

do you think this could work as a four-some...
ive never known anyone have a four-some of bores... so is it a un-acheivable aim...?
jusr curious really... becuase they are all so snuggly together...

Its pretty much a given that it won't work, especially as you have girls around. It may work for a while, but as soon as the youngest 2 hit teenage years you could end up with a blood bath.

Depending on their ages you should be able to do it fine! The sooner they are put together the better, just give them as big a space as possible with plenty of tubes and hidey holes to get away from each other! :))

LOL! always the way :D

Yes, I have, a few times :)

1 adult and 3 babies - and the babies were excessively dominant for their age! all was fine, and the babies were all 4 weeks.

and 2 adults and 3 babies.

tbh I do it fairly frequently when I get new little one's in, and they just stay together unless I notice there are any problems. It's just a case of keeping your eye on them and seeing how it goes, sometimes it's fine, and other time's it's not - but as long as you react quickly so that there aren't any incidents, then there's no reason why you can't give it a go.

The only pairings I wouldn't do with boars is two older boys around the same age. Anything else I'd give a go.

wow...
what did you do when the babies hit the kevin and perry age...?
did problems occur in the dynamics of the group...?

tbh they naturally migrated into pairs one of the times I did it, so I just split them like that. I have the space and it didn't really bother me! The other lads are only 5 weeks now :) and they're fine at the moment!

I'm hoping to have a large boar pen soon though...so will let you know how it goes! :))

Oh...I will add, when they paired off they weren't agressive with each other, just some of them got a bit annoyed with the others for humping them, so they would probably have been fine if I'd left them together.

I don't have any personal experience myself but I do know my friend ( a vet nurse) had several neutered boars in with a group of girlies and had very few problems. Before they were neutered she obviously kept boys and girls separate and the boys squabbled loads until they were castrated. Follow your own instinct I guess, you're the one who is there with them and can see their current behaviour. I don't believe in a one a 'one size fits all' theory to animal care and personally think its best to assess each case individually. :)

The only thing I would say is if you're going to do it, do it asap whilst they're still little, they'll go together much easier. If they're already paired up it doesn't really matter if you end up having to split them up again :))

good luck :)

Boars when they are young may get along better but there is also the chance of them all falling out. Boars are tricky and yes you can put 12 week old boars together but the problems start round about 4 months.

I know someone who did have 4 adult boars together but it was done carefully and with a lot of space. The Guinea Pigs had a lot of free ranging time too. Sadly two members of the group died and she was never able to introduce anymore boars.

To be honest, it's just a case of suck it and see, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, i would have back up accomodation ready incase it doesn't, i have a spare indoor cage that will house x2 if you need it?
It can just depend on how hormonal they get, in my experience...
keep us posted!

they are already housed seperatly... they live in a double hutch with the floors seperated....
I'm not sure as to wether i am going to bother up setting two pairs of bonded boys....
just something i am looking in to really...

ahh right no worries, i didnt read it right, i thought there were already in together doh mallethead

I had a group of 4 boars, until one of them was pts. Now they're a trio. But it started out I had a single boar, Bob. He was bonded to a younger boar, Smores (rip). Then I acquired two young bonded boars, Enrico and Fluffy, and Bob and Smores seemed to really like them! They got along fine and when their hormonal stage hit, I separated them from the older boars. Then I got them back together and now Bob, Fluffy, and Enrico all live as a trio.

A few years ago my mum had two pairs of boars, they were all laid back piggys so she tried bonding them as a four. They all lived happily together, there never were any arguments between them, they were a few years old when she bonded them so had all passed their teenage stage. More recently, she has got another herd of four boys, she got them as unwanted pets so they were already bonded but they too get along fine. I think it depends very much on their pigsonality, as I know neither of my pairs of boars could be bonded together.

Meet Minto, Pepper, Red and Mr C. They are four rescue boars that I was fostering for Cavycorner from a massive influx of 65 or so Piggies from a single rescue. They came as a quartet (boartet?) so it was agreed that I keep them like that initially. They needed lots of handleing as they were quite feral. I had them tempararily in a Nero 4 pen so a little cramped really for four. They had floor time though. They were within sight of my two sows, Dindy and Cupcake and my solitary (un neutered) boar. The four lived together very well for the few weeks that I had them before they went down to Jenny at Crawly Guinea Pig Rescue.
So it's not impossible, just uncommon.
