So as some of you know I’m taking on my sisters boars in April when she emigrates to Australia.
At the moment they’re in a big outdoor hutch with a run attached that goes onto the lawn. The pigs (especially Modo) loooooove munching the lawn!
I live in a flat without access to a garden, I only have a balcony which I grow a few potted rose bushes on. I’ve pretty much got their housing sorted but I was wondering if anyone has ever grown grass inside for their pigs to eat? Gizmo and Modo are basically lawn mowers in the summer and I don’t want them to go without their fave little treat of nice fresh grass x

Yep I've grown grass from seed. It's easy to do but doesn't last long! As they can't go outside its better to have grass at all stages of development. Sew your grass a week apart in seed trays so there is some ready. Then you can just cut a load and leave it to grow again. A bit like cut and come again lettuce! Just normal grass seed will do or if you want to give them a treat try Timothy grass seed.

We grow grass in seed trays and just pop the tray in their run for them to munch on. I buy the seeds from Galen's Garden.

My piggies do have access to a lawn in Summer, but I also find that I end up cutting them a huge amount of fresh grass from nearby parks and fields.

If you are careful and make sure the grass hasn't be sprayed or peed on by dogs, then this can offer a great source of free food in the Summer months even if you don't have a lawn.

The minute my piggies shear the rustle of the grass bags they go crazy!

I can cut some from my mums garden but I’m only there once a week or so. Just thought it would be nice to have some for them all the time, they seem to really love a munch on the grass! I can grow it out on the balcony in a bigger pot if I need to

I grow cat grass for my boys. We have a lawn but it's too cold and damp most of the time, there's only a couple of months at most that it's suitable for them. Cat grass seems to grow quickly and as long as they don't pull the seeds up it grows back well.
You can buy pre made pots on Amazon but I can get the seeds from our local super market and grow it in old food containers.

Hi guys help
Can I just pull my grass out my garden and fed it to our little piggies
Someone told us we couldn’t it’s only ok if they eat it themselves?

Freshly picked grass is fine (as long as you don't have dogs peeing on that grass). You shouldn't give grass collected from a lawn mower - maybe that was the advice your friend was trying to remember?

I go to the nature park every day in summer and collect grass and leaves etc for the piggies. I have a lawn and they love that, but it's not practical for them to be out every day, what with work and rain etc.

We grow trays of grass and also take grass from the garden. We let part of our lawn grow wild for the piggies
I also bring home willow branches from our local park. We know the park ranger and he doesn't mind as long as it only a small amount.
