Just wondering if any of you grow your own veg for you and the piggies? I am thinking of growing some, but would like to grow in pots rather than outside in the soil as our garden is being treated for weeds at the moment so there is chemicals and so on in the ground and have to wait 6 months before we can grow veg in the ground, plus its coming up to winter too and was wondering what I could grow in doors in pots? Any ideas? :D
 
hi we have just started growing veg for us and the pigs, although we have got a lot outside in big planter boxes and a greenhouse.

i started my cucumbers off inside they grew huge but my intention was always to put them in the greenhouse to finish off, i should imagine they would grow fine indoors if you have room for them..organic ones seem to grow bigger.

peas in pods do well indoors, my mum used to keep them on our kitchen windowsil and you get a small variety so they dont grow overly big.

carrots grow well in pots ive had some small ball shaped ones from pampered piggies and the longer ones and they have grown well in pots.

cabbage will grow ok in pots aslong as you put 1-2 seeds in and seperate any little ones before they get too big as spring cabbage needs quite a lot of room to grow.

ive attempted brocolli this year, which prob can be done in pots but mine hasnt grown its in the ground and got eaten by slugs, as did the kale :(

all sorts of herbs, ive grown corriander and parsley which the pigs like if you go to your nearest wilkinsons you can buy some propergator things which are small but enough room to start off plants, or grow your herbs in as they have a cover it keeps the wind off etc and a chill if there is one. my mum started her rhubarb and tomatoes off in them.

there are prob lots of other things just try them and see if they grow lol
 
forgot to mention a lot of the seeds wont be ready to go in until early next year now, but the variety of peas i have can be grown most of the year although they are a small variety so off three plants my 6 gps got 1pea pod each and there were 2 left over lol not enough to feed them right through ;D
 
Thank you :) I brought some lettuce seeds and it saysI can't sow until March next year ::) so looks like I will have to wait. I will just have to prepare things till then O0 Thanks again x
 
We grow most of the piggies veg :D (two allotments, 4 greenhouses..big garden ::))

As for pots...we've found most herbs grow well in pots, as do carrots..not sure what else at the moment but will have a think :D
 
Planet Guinea has seeds suitable for guineas :) Selected with their nutrional needs in mind and information sheets with each order. Plantain is great for growing indoors, I have some at the moment. The Planet Guinea 2007 Mix is quick to germinate and good for piggy treats too.
At this time of year you could be sowing Timothy or Orchard Grass for next year and a plot of herbage, Chicory is good ;)

I buy all my veg :) Couldn't grow enough for mine and have the time to look after them :)
 
I've just been sent some seeds from the US to grow O0 they're in there own container and i should see some growth withing 10 days it says. I hope Duke appreciates the thought of my friend in the US :-\
 
I started growing some coriander about 3 months ago.......and it's still growing, it's not big enough to pick any yet. Might be ready by next year ;D ;D

I'm starting a veggie garden from next spring cos i've got a huge garden
 
This year we grew radishes, sweetcorn a few carrots and some french beans in the garden. :) Next year we are getting a small allotment and will be growing peas, beans, sweetcorn, Radishes and carrots and some other things if we have room. :)
