baby piggie

I dont have a lawn in my garden, its just all paving slabs. What i was wondering is .... see how you get the packets of grass seeds? If i grew some grass in a pot would this be safe to feed for piggies? :)

I'm sure someone will be on soon with a website for different cereal/grass seeds. There is someone on the forum who sells the seeds. I think I read that we are suposed to avoid ornamental grasses and that rye grass doesn't have the right nutritional balance.
This website talks about various forages:

At Notcutts pet section today I saw the rabbits had a tray with fresh grass growing in it. All the animals had plenty of space and looked happy.

It's Karens website. O0

I know quite a few people who grow grass in cat litter trays. :)

Grass is really easy to grow for your guineas. For indoors I'd recommend trying a Cereal grass. You could also grow a tray of Sunflower shoots (easy again). These are very nutritious @ 18=20% Protein. If you're not sure about what to buy there's a trial size section. Free with every order from Planet Guinea in June is a trial size of Cereal Grass (about 45g approx). Full sowing and growing instructions are included and advice on guinea pig nutrition.
You could also have a few pots with herbage in, for example, Plantain grows well in a pot, and Clover. If the pots are big enough you could even grow some Kale, or grow Baby Leaf Kale in smaller pots...

Just ask lavenderjade about it, she grows her own on her balcony. It is lush grass actually. Nice and green and the piggies LOVE it :smitten:

It is like a piggies dream on her balcony at the moment O0

Haha Lavenderjade x

I have got the grass from karens site and i have grown them in seed trays, B&Q sell them quite cheaply and i have put them ontop of the shed and their hutches. (They do also go out on the lawn, but they have munched it down to nothing at the minute!)
It grows really quickly and once they have munched it all down re grows quickly.
I think i spent about £15 on seeds and i have got loads of trays out of it, plus lots more left!
I have also found rocket and leaf salad grows quickly and is good to grow in pots.

Glad you liked it Hayley :) or more to the point that the Guins did :) Growing Grass needn't be expensive and its the very best thing you can give them :) Seeds and Hays are both available in bulk now with 100% of profits going to the rescue guineas :)
