I have just spotted this 'thing' on Barney's lip and I have no idea what it is. I wondered if he had a piece of hay/food stuck to it but when I tried to wipe if off it would not move. I held a wet cotton wool pad against it to see if that would loosen it but it did not shift. It was not there yesterday. The area is not inflamed and there isn't a cut so although it looks a bit like a scab I have no idea what caused it. Luckily it has not put him off his food - just polished off a lump of carrot that he was given for being a good boy while I checked him over.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

How strange! I have no idea I'm afraid, but I hope it's nothing scary!

I know - i'm just hoping that it will fall off but it really seemed to be stuck quite firmly - have all sorts of things running through my head and they aren't happy thoughts!

It's not boar glue is it...? :hmm:
I don't think so but I have been lucky enough not to see boar glue before other than the occasional sperm rod so I'm not sure what it would look like when it is dry and crusty - I am actually cringing when typing this and hope that I am not going to get any mickey-taking comments!

Haha, sorry! I've only seen it once after Thor had just had his operation and it was stuck fast to the fleece :vom:

It's definitely looking like an "attached" bit of "gunk" and not chelitis or anything sinister.
Looking at the photo - and the fact he is a "boy" - "boar glue" would be my first thought too!

Boar glue is difficult to get off! (Hence it's name!) On fur - most of us resort to hacking it off with scissors. Unfortunately for Barney - it's decided to solidify in a sensitive place (poor love - but one wonders just exactly what he has been doing to get it on his lip LOL!)
Your first approach ref the cotton buds was a good one....but hasn't achieved the desired result. So I suggest you now "up the ante" and think about using warm-water-soaked cotton wool (eye-make-up pads )and getting him to sit still long enough to soak it off - try food bribery!.

It may not come off it's own accord but at some point it will come away but there is risk of some trauma to the lip. So if the cotton wool pads don;t work, just keep an eye on it and if you see any redness/wound on the lip where it "was" then go to the vet and get an appropriate anti-infedtive for the wound.

Boys!

EDIT: Unfortunately I recently had the dubious pleasure of being presented with an "emission" from one of my boars directly into my hand. The speed at which it dried/solidified (seconds) and trying to peel it off afterwards plus the look of it, leaves me fairly confident that is what the "alien" on Barney's lip is!

I'm sorry - but if that's what it is, it's hilarious

Oh god - how am I going to explain this one to his dad - he will be horrified! hahaha! I will try again with the cotton wool pads and see if he will sit still for me - don't fancy my chances as he hates being cuddled and turns into a biter if I try to force him! Will keep an eye on him for if his lip gets damages when it comes off. I do have some 'cut healing' gel from the vet (cant remember what it is called) from when he cut his face last year - timing is unbelievable as I just lent it to @Derek's mammy !

This has made me laugh, it does look like it - Frank stuck his private parts to his underbelly once, i couldn't stop laughing as he was soaking in a warm bath with a disgruntled look on his face.
