Hi, so last night I noticed that my guinea pigs nail pad was swollen and had hard skin around the nail itself.
It's just the pad around the nail that is swollen, and not the whole foot. The swelling is hard and doesn't feel like a swelling.
I took him to the vet today because I thought it may have been early signs of bumblefoot, and the vet prescribed 0.4ml of baytril for a week twice a day.
I am still not sure of what this is on his foot as I am not fully convinced it's bumblefoot; it doesn't look like it is causing him any pain and he is walking fine on it.
Does anybody know what this could be? Is it bumblefoot or some kind of spurs? Is my piggy going to be ok? (I can post pics if it would help)
Thanks

Can you take a photo and upload it? I think without seeing it, it would be hard to advise. Did your vet give any indication of what it might be?

Presumably your piggy is eating still. Also just a thought, it would be wise to ensure your piggy has a probiotic as well to ensure the meds don't upset his stomach which can happen.

I don't think that it is bumblefoot, but any swelling needs to be treated with antibiotics. A picture would help!

Hi, I have posted this via mobile, and can't seem to upload pictures. Give me half an hour and the pictures will be up:-)
Thank you so much for helping me, I was really worried that its was bumblefoot or something

Hi, it's not letting me upload more than one picture, so I will have to do it one at a time, sorry:-/

This picture is of his bad toe; it's the one in the middle

Its not a spur or look like bumblefoot to me the toe does look swollen, no idea but would imagine the Ab's are a good idea, hopefully someone with some experience in feet may be along. Would recommend getting some probiotic to give at seperate time to baytril just to help his tummy out while on the AB's. Hope his toe gets well soon.

Ok, thank you for the advice, what types of probiotic would you recommend also?

We use AviPro Plus, but noticed you are in the USA - hoepfully one of our US members could suggest one.
