Grumbling sounds?

I want to start this by saying that I've taken my guinea pig to the vet twice and they've said she's perfectly fine.

I went there for a check up because I was concerned about this nasally grumbling sound that she makes sometimes (rarely, mainly when she's laying down/trying to sleep)

They checked her heart and chest, said she was lively (she is), and that they can't hear any crackling in her chest.


She's eating and drinking fine, completely normal. Maybe I am just too anxious about her getting older and I'm latching onto something small?

I guess I'm here to ask if anyone has experienced this? Maybe it's her way of snoring? Because as of right now, it appears there isn't an issue, but every time I hear it I feel concerned.

If you suffer from anxiety, there is a small home test you can do: is the sound coming from the nose when you hold your ear against it? If yes, and if it disappears quickly and is only very off and on, then you need not worry as the airways are very narrow and even the least obstruction, like a bit of hay dust or pollen can sound rather alarming.

You should see a vet during regular opening hours as a non-emergency if any sounds and sneezing don't disappear within a few hours, if there is a persistently runny nose or if the sounds are coming from the throat (potential URI); and as an emergency if there is a clicking sound from the chest or there is heaving, laboured breathing from both sides when a piggy is upright (when piggies are sleeping sideways, their normal breathing can be more obvious, simply from the body position).
