guinea babies and cats?

am about to move house and the person in which i will be sharing with, owns a cat (hiss). this is a major concern for me as i dont want to come home one day to find Lilo or Moose "missing". is it possible for cats and guineas to co-exsist in the same house without the constant worry?
 
if your piggies dont live in an open cage or arent left in a run unsupervised i think they will be ok, you will just need to keep a close eye on things :)
 
I would never risk it, and you titled this thread guinea babies does that mean they are very young? I would make sure you have a covered cage for them to live in if they are indoors and if they run around in the house make sure you are clear of cats first. If the cat isnt used to them it will be interested in them.
 
cats are just natural hunters, my sister has too kittens and if you put anything in front of them and move it about they pounce on it.

Lock that cage down as best as possible.

In the summer when we put the girls out in the run all day we have about 9 bricks on top just in case and also put some round the edge where there is the slightest gap to stop anying burrowing.

You have to think of it not as keeping the piggies in but keeping predators out
 
Our neighbours have cats and they sit and watch the guineas in the runs sometimes but have never tried to get in and when they have gone up to peep in the run there's always one character that doesn't know he'ssupposed to be afraid and just stares the cat out ::)

Like Graham says, you need to know your cat though :)
 
I have 3 cats. 2 are fine with the guineas, just sit and watch them but the third one who is much younger sees them as a play toy for himself. I would never trust him with them. He has in the past 'caught' one, luckily it was one of my bigger ones and was too heavy for him to pick up. The guinea was fine, didn't seem at all bothered and the cat hadn't stuck his claws or teeth in so I'm sure he was only playing but since then I have not let him near them. As others have said it all depends on the cat but even with my 2 cats that I trust I would still not leave them alone together.
 
i have 2 cats and they have never tried to attack thgey even go up and get little piggie kisses! :smitten:
saying that i would never leave them alone with them just because they are cats and they might get just a bit tempted one day! ::)

well i have 12 piggies and 1 cat the cat is ok with the piggies if there in ther ecgaes or in there runs i gets jelaous if my mum is holing one of them , he has hit a few around the head and he has had lilly and ruby in his mouth but there all still alive and as mine are getting bigger now he is not as borthed about them

are your piggies indoor or out door? perhaps keep them in a room where the cat is not allowed and always make sure the door is closed. but i would NEVER a piggy and a cat nor a dog. so be very careful with your babies. sending huhs and cuddles. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
 
thanks everyone for your advice. they are indoor guineas. will make sure that the cat is never left alone with them. x x
 
a very well thought out decision. remember cats are crafty and sneaky. i have seen cats on a program here called harry's practice( dr harry cooper a vet) and seen cats open doors and windows. good luck and enjoy your new place. hugs and cuddles to you and your babies. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
 
I have 2 indoor piggies and 2 cats. The cats tend to just ignore them. I even let the piggies have floor time while the cats are there - all they'll do is go up for a wee nose. I would never leave them all out together though whilst not there supervising - cos you just never know what the cats are thinking! ;D

Some cats just won't leave them alone (it's the movement!), others aren't fussed. I always had cats and dogs and guineas when I was younger and never had any problems. Also - they're very thick skinned!

But best not leave it to chance. Let's hope the cat ignores them!

I have 1 cat and 9 piggies, our piggies are in cages, during the day the cat goes out and the piggies get to use the run in our livingroom. In the evening we have the guineas in the run for a short while and the cat is shut out the livingroom.
When the piggies are back in the cage, Corey cat is allowed back in the livingroom.
If I have one out for a cuddle, Corey does not even bother looking anymore, Corey was 10 when I got piggies, we used to live in the country only 6 houses where we lived, no shops or pubs and he used to bring me presents home, birds, voles and rabbits.
Before I shut the house down for the night, I say Corey bed and he gets up and goes to his fleece in the kitchen, he has access to 1 hall and a small conservatory where his litter tray and his 4 ft high scratch climbing pole is.
