Hi. i have two indoor guinea pigs and use sawdust and newspaper at the bottom of their cage. the cage has two platforms for which they use to sleep and feed, so the bottom is just mainly used as a toilet by them. i only feed them one bowl of fresh veg a day with nuggets and musili but i notice that on day two the cage starts to smell. does anyone know what bedding i can use that will help to minimize the odor? can i mix animal litter in with the sawdust? thanks for your help. :)

How big are the cages? I know it is counterintuitive, but the larger the cage the less it smells. I am currently using fleece, but I have a double decker cage each cage is 2 x 4 grids for 4 pigs, I'm on day 3 and no smell.

Fresh veg causes smellier droppings that's for sure. Have recently stopped using sawdust and moved on to other dust free bedding, would recommend doing the same. I'm new to this though so figuring out these issues myself to find what works for the pigs and us. Lots of great advice available on these forums, sorry I can't offer much.

My cage is 4ft by 2ft very open and airy but they poo and pee in the corners and even after a day it really whiffs. i tried a litter tray but they don't really use it. I think maybe they are having too much fresh veg. They are spoilt girls. How much fresh veggies do you feed? thanks for the reply. :)
