I am growing coriander for the first time, I read that it doesn't much like to be transplanted http://www.tropicalpermaculture.com/growing-cilantro.htmlso I grew it in a fairly big and deep container. Perhaps if you take out a clump of seedlings, rather than trying to separate the roots, it might be OK. I would say when they are 5cm tall transplant them to a container 8cm wide 25cm deep (coriander has a deep root system). A soda bottle would work well, don't forget to make drainage holes at the bottom though.
I hope maybe someone that has had some success with coriander can help, I'd be quite keen to know how it's grown well because I've had very limited success with herbs and I'd hate to give you the wrong advice!
