My guinea pig Pippin lost her cage mate Oreo on June 3rd passed then her daughter of 6months died this morning. I did everything I could for Ariel I took her to the vet for treatment. The vet said she had an infection in her throat and that's why she couldn't eat. I lost 3 of my boys due to this infection too, Oreo I think was born with a heart defect or something because she was eating and drink before she died. My question is should I get a new cage mate or should I let her get pregnant again she's only 9months old. PS she's eating and drinking a little so I'm feeding her critical care.
I would also like to mention that Pippin was taking to the vet with Oreo when I first got them from my local pet shop to find out their sex and I was told that they where boys but of course later I found out they where both girls and they used to play with the other boys that's how she got pregnant. She was very healthy and had a girl and a boy :) also I not like the pregnancy ideal but I also dont think me buying a girl piggy will work. Any advice would be great.

Sorry for your loss.I would not recommend getting her pregnant again, pregnancies in Guinea pigs are risky but 2nd time round I think the risks increase.I think it would be worth getting her a new friend- preferably from a rescue near you.

I'm so sorry for your recent losses .

:agr: with above poster - it would not be a good idea for her to get pregnant again.

Are you happy to give us some idea of you location - Country and County would be great . This will help us tailor our advice .

I don't live near any guinea pig rescues which is sad. Also if I buy from a pet shop how will I know they will like each other? I know girls don't really fight often. And thank you.

:agr: please don't allow her to get pregnant, it's very draining for their little bodies. Trying a rescue would be best
Yeah I know I'm just panicking because she looks really depressed. I want to help her the best way I can.:(

If there are no rescues nearby then the best option would be to buy a baby/ young girl as I think they'd be more likely to get on X

We rehome to many different areas in the country, its still worth contacting a rescue and see if they will rehome to you. They often have baby sows available. Please don't put her through another pregnancy as you may lose her as well.

I won't be allowing her to become pregnant and I don't live near a rescue for guinea pigs. I'm going to check with a pet shop near me that take in guinea pigs in, and I will see if they have any for adoption if not then I will buy a baby girl for her. thanks for your advice.
