hi i need some advice as I'm worried about my poor guinea.
she was sprayed yesterday and i picked her up the same day just later in the afternoon.
she is not very active very rarely moving and was scraping her tummy along the bottom of her caged. i then moved her so she had a towel on the bottom of the cage and she has been there ever since.
my real concern is that she is not drinking at all and had not since yesterday and she is not eating. she has a little hay yesterday but that is it. i have tried tempting her with her food and even the treats she likes with no luck.
i wonder if anyone has any advice as I'm getting really worried.
thanks

sorry i have no advice for you but someone will come along and give you some.did the vet not give you any post-op advice?is her food in easy reach so she doesnt have to move?make sure she has lots of hay if thats what shes eating.maybe she just needs a bit iof time to recover

thank you for replying. all i was told by the vet was to feed her as normal etc very helpful. food is in easy reach and i even have food on the floor next to her and hay.

Try lettuce or cucumber for hydration. Hay water is supposed to be good too. There's also a powder from Oxbow called "critical care". I haven't used it but my vet stocks it. I hope she feels better soon!

After one of my piggies had an op, I was given critical care sachets to feed him. My piggie was groggy and dizzy after the op but after a couple of days was back to normal. He didnt eat much veg but did nibble hay and eat the critical care mix. Your vets should have these sachets in stock but maybe call them for advice if you are worried.

thank you so much for the advice. she is still turning her nose up on food and not drinking. have popped in some apple, cucumber and have added water to her nuggets but still no luck.
she is moving a little more but still prefers to be in a corner sleeping (or so it looks). have been in touch with the vet who suggest she goes to see them tomorrow if she is no better. Fingers crossed she starts pirking up

It could be post-operative shock, which is potentially fatal. You must get some fluid into her, water is better than nothing but rehydratiom fluid would be ideal. You can get Dioralyte from chemists/supermarkets.

this morning i have some very sad news. my guinea died the late hours of the night following a fit which was not nice to experience. R.I.P Sheba you will always be in my thoughts and i will take good care of your babies x

I am so sorry for your loss. By the time she had the seizure, she would have been out of it and unaware of what was happening; although unpleasant to witness, I do hope it is of some comfort that she was not aware she was experiencing it herself. Big hugs to you. xx

I'm sorry to hear about your piggie. 8... sending big hugs to you x

Sad news, although I am not surprised, it did seem like she was in shock.
