I popped into giant pet store to get some just grass today and saw Julie the lady who does the animal awarness days and she asked if I could do a guinea pig one in April. Date is to be confirmed but it will be on a Saturday from 9am til 4pm in the giant pet store near the airport in Norwich. If anyone would like to come along and help in away I would be very grateful, hopefully my OH will have the day off work and my best friend will be helping too. All donations made on the day will be given to our rescue in the form of gift vouchers to be spent on food and bedding for the rescue guineas here.

its too far for me :( but i hope it turns out to be a great, successful day :)

Vikki i'll more than likely be there! I'm only 30 mins down the road :) :) so I can just get on the train and bus.

That sounds great, hope you have a good day all round :) I am near London so too far for me too :-\
Do let us know how it goes! What sort of things are you thinking of doing?

Count me in!

Sophie1307 if you need a lift I could come past Beccles on the way.....

Just what we needed - what with all those guineas in rescue needing homes :)

Going to take some of our guineas in for people to handle, luckily the pet store is only 10 minutes from home so my other half/myself can bring guinea pigs in short shifts so none of them get stressed out or spend too long there. Going to take our own pet rescued piggys as they are chilled out, don't mind fuss, are used to being transported and are easy to handle. Staring a display of basic cavy care information housing, bedding, food, needs, birds and the bees to try and help prevent accidental breeding etc. to go up and am going to do a booklet of illnesses and injuries that are common for the adults to look at (don't want piccys up that will scare the children but some facts are important for adults to know.) still at the planning stage so any ideas welcome O0

Great idea, hope it goes well for you O0

oooo you are all going to have your own piggy meet up wish I was closer! We want to know all the details not long till april O0

Great Ron and Sophies x2 thanks for the offers will clue you in when I have more details. Was going to take my 3 Rex boys, our soppy aby sows as none of them will bat an eyelid at all the activity and love their cuddles, plus as they are all singles that means no worries about groups getting moody being in small housing (our rex trio of girls are in a six by two and might take exception to smaller caging they are fine in a carrier for short periods but can get a little miffy if n there too long), Jumbo should be feeling better by then and he loves to show off so that gives shifts of guineas doing about an hour and a half each in the shop, basicaly the Rex will probably enjoy the outing and want to stay longer but will let them tell me if they want to come home early or stay longer for more fuss. Don't want to have too many of our guineas there at one time so i a can make sure they don't get stressed and can go home when they want to but if you wanted to bring some of the horde Ron the more the merrier! I think I might turn people into rexaholics lol would be nice to have two varieties of guinea there at any one time going to have a think on who is in the shed who would enjoy a trip out.

Sounds like it will be a good day! If you want different breeds I can bring a rescue Texel or two :smitten: - they're not fussed about anything, bless them.

Let me know what I can do to help

its gonna be a grand guinea pig day out!
i'll bring the cucumber sarnies and lashings of ginger beer!
I know Vikki (put the Iguana down!)

I would love to come, especially if I get to meet Jumbo :D I will make the effort to come, I will get on multi map and see how far it is :) can't be any further than Lincoln to Reading :D I'll go anywhere to meet up with the rescue lot as you do such a wonderful job :) and I can't wait to meet all the piggies :smitten:

Jumbo is getting much better but abscesses still have not cleared totally, he needs to put some weight back on as his antibiotics put off food for a while, hopefully he will be well enough to attend. He is in dire danger of staying here, who else would wake up with me at 4.30am to eat oxbow on my lap and keep me sane while I watch a film. I know the Iguana would keep me company Ron but he just won't eat oxbow the way Jumbo does and make me giggle. Until I know his abscesses from reaction to his internal stitches are clear and will remain so he won't be able to anywhere else. :smitten: ::)
Sophie rescue Texels would be great! Would be good to show the variety of guineas that end up being rescued. O0
I am awaiting a call from Julie to get a date as the store is being re-furbished at the moment meanwhile I can get all giddy laminating disply information LOL takes me back to my teacher training days.
I will sort out a timing sheet of sorts to co-orinate who is coming when etc etc the staff are happy to help out and cuddle guineas lol
For now am goin to be playing making displays this weekend. O0
