Hello

A guinea pig my fiancé and myself rescued from a girl who was starving them has just given birth (she came with her sister and two males). She had three pups all are quite big (smallest is 84g) but one of them has been born with a 'bent foot'. It's his front left one. It bends inwards at the 'ankle' and is noticeably different. The wee soul is trying his hardest to get up and walk, but he is exhausted. He is currently lying on his back nestled in top. Just looking for some advice, trying to get hold of the vet but it's been busy for a good hour now. I wouldn't get him put down because of it, I would rather hand raise him.

Thanks for your time and help!

If you can call your local guinea pig rescue and ask them for help they may be your best bet. Here is the Piggy Bank approved rescues link:

Sorry I cannot help more.

Is he suckling from mum or not? If not hand rearing is the only option (unless you can find a suragate mum). If he can function with the foot the way it is then there is no reason to PTS. If he is suffering with it, cant walk or is very painful with it, it either needs removing or it sometimes kinder to PTS. I dont know what its like etc, so I'm not suggesting either to you. I agree, poss giving a rescue a call would be a good idea.

Mum keeps sitting on top of him, so I've put him with our experienced mum and she's cleaned him and is keeping him warm. I'm sitting with him and his two brothers hoping they might encourage him to try and get to his feet, or just provide some comfort. He's been nibbling my finger so I'm going to get his mum and try and latch him on so, he's a strong wee guy, he does not like not being able to get up. He had a wee nap and is now having another attempt at getting up, I hold him upright and he stops trying, so he does know what he's trying to accomplish, just hope he can manage it soon! He's only a few hours old so plenty of time for him to get him strength up!
