Hi how do you give a guinea pig a bath? What shampoo do you use ? When do you bath them? As i am thinking of bathing chrunchie and twix ready for christmas any advice please

Short haired guineas don't need regular bathing unless they are very dirty or to treat for parasites. If you do feel they need bathing you can get special guinea pig shampoo from pet shops but gorgeous guineas is the best http://www.gorgeousguineas.com/
Do remember that they must be kept warm until they are totally dry. It is not a good idea to bath outdoor guinea pigs in cold weather as it involves lots of extreme changes of temperature hot house to cold garden etc and if they are still a bit damp they can get very cold once back outside.

My short haired boys only have a bath for the cleaning of their grease gland - other than this i would not bath them as there really is no reason to bath a short haired guinea pig - two of my short haired sows have only ever had 2 baths in their life (one will be 3 in january and the other 3 next may) and one of these was a bonding bath!

As already recommended: gorgeous guinea is a good place to shop for piggie shampoos :)

When it comes to actually bathing them i do this in a sink and i fill the sink half way (just high enough so when piggie sits in the water it just covers their belly) - i wet them all over (apart from their head/face/ears) take them out of the water and sit them on a dry towel and then lather them up with shampoo. i then put them back in to the water and wash off all the shampoo . I then wrap them in a towel to absorb most of the water - mine then get dried with a hair dryer on the lowest heat setting until fully dried. (for my longer haired pigs they would normally get their hair trimmed before being dried)

Yup, I agree with these lovely folks it depends on the breed. My teddy I wash once a month if she's really dirty, if not every other month. & my Abyssinian stays clean easily so only every couple of months for her. But any pet store will have shampoo for critters. Make sure they stay warm though, they can catch a chill easily. Only warm water, dry them off well & give them lots of love :)
