Hi all, just been looking at guinea pig beds/cosies which look great but I wondered if they are practical? Do you end up having to wash them every day?

Mine currently have a shoe box filled with hay but I was thinking that come winter (very soon no doubt) they might need something warmer.

Another thing that I've seen is that they can be handy for getting them out without stressing them too much?

In the girls homes (cages) they have wooden huts or those curved sticks to use as hidey's. We put their cosies in during run times and wash them once a week as a rule. They always come up nice and clean. I probably wouldn't use them in the cage as hideys simply because I'd washing them every other day and can't imagine the state Megan would get them into! rolleyes

We use a chube [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007DK4GKU/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00189LFSI&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0JPCTTQYREREVVSWS199"]Critters Choice Chube Giant (Guinea Pigs): Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies[/ame] to help us collect the girls from their cage, they know the drill so we just herd them into it, they both hate been picked up but enjoy cuddles

I think its personal preference and depends on the pigs, I put my beds in the cage on fleece and wash them when I was the rest of the bedding which tends to be about every 4 days. My boys dont really pee in their beds, or if they do it dries quick! Some pigs will mess them up quick others won't I supose!

I dream of every 4 day washing with Miss Moo and her fleece, although saying that, I came down this morning and it was pristine... She did however have poo on her head! ?/ rolleyes :))

Ha ha brilliant!

Mine are outside so I do worry about them getting cold at night (they are covered) but I can just imagine the state a bed would get in...but I am really drawn to them...strange! :))

Mine do run into their 'log' whenever I open the cage door, so to get them out I literally have to tip them out - which seems a bit mean but not sure how else to get them? Maybe I could use that to lift them out of the cage?

My pigs are outside too and they each have a little cosy bed sleeping bag thing. They love them. I wash them every 3 days or so as my lazy girls tend to pee in them. They are great for carrying them around. I use them to carry them to their run and then when it's time for them to go back to the cage I just put the bags in the run and they go straight in them so I can carry them back. I say get some, they aren't very expensive.

Mine only need washing due to one of them peeing on them, i have stopped using them now due to the annoyance, it's a shame as their snugglesafes fit nicely in the beds. I'm now about to convert the nesting area in the coop into a den for them so i can stuff it with hay in the winter.
