Guinea Pig Bite Wound

Hi,

So, I recently introduced my four year old guinea pig to a new 4(ish) month old pig. Both males. They've been getting along fine for the last three weeks, but I came home yesterday to see a huge chunk of fur missing from my younger pigs face, with a little scab around the edges.

I'm assuming it's a bite.

Should I take him to the vet? Is there something specific I should watch out for in the wound? How should I continue to care for my two pigs?

Hello and welcome. That doesn't look like a bite wound to me but it rather looks like a fungal infection.

It's best to take both boys to the vets for a firm diagnosis as they will both need to be treated x

It looks like it could be ringworm. I'm only looking on phone, as out at mo. Will look on laptop when I get home x

I though t it looked a bit odd for a bite mark, I'll try to get him to the vet as soon as possible to work out if it really is a fungal infection. Thank you for the help!

Dito to Claire ' s answer, most lightly fungal,
I use Suralan as recomended by my vet. It is wonderful stuff, though most anti fungal drops/cream should clear it up very quickly
NB. It's important to get it treated as soon as possible as it spreads very quickly

Please have both guinea pigs seen by a vet for a fungal infection. it is most likely ringworm that has come with your new arrival. Ringworm is the single most transmittable issue between all mammals. You need to be very thorough with the hygiene to get on top of it.

Yes, that definitely looks like ringworm. I have found itrafungal is the best and easiest way to clear it and it is an oral medication so easy to administer.
