Hello everyone, I’ve used this site a lot but I haven’t really found an answer yet.
I have 5 boys in a c&c cage, one of my younger boys, yogi, has been bitten and scratched very badly.
I noticed he was bitten on the neck around 4 days ago, separated who I thought had done it but now he has a lot of wounds and scratches on his back side. The bite (I have attached) has healed very well and has scabbed over.
I'm absolutely heart broken and I’m not sure what to do next. At the moment he’s in his own cage to recover. He is squealing quite a lot.
In the group he is very energetic and annoying to the other pigs so I’m not sure if this is what’s caused it.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
should I take him to the vets? Bathe him? Creams etc? Am I right to separate him?

Hi and welcome

Please have him vet checked and make sure that your vet also checks for stress related mange mites. Please do NOT DIY home treat on spec as you can make things worse rather than better. Your vet has decide whether they want to prescribe ivermectin for the mites at a higher strength than low dosed pet shop brands which won't cut through an acute outbreak and whether they think that the open would is a bite from a fight, which could be at risk of abscessing and may require an antibiotic.

Please be aware that 5 boars hitting the teenage months together is more likely to result in fight and fall outs unless you have at least 1 square metre per boar so they can get away from each other. Trios, quartets and small groups are the most unstable of all boar combinations; the more so the more sub-adults you have in a group.

Here is more detailed information. Please take the time to read the guides:
