Hi guys I am new on this site and posted this earlier to guinea pig welfare not realising there was a place for all health and illness topics. I hope anyone who has had experience will share their stories with me.

My guinea pig Ginger has shown bladder stones after numerous visits to the vet an ultra sound and last week. She is on antibiotics and pain medication. I have been advised not to go for surgery as the outcome may not be good and it will cost in the region of £300 (which I would be willing to pay).

I have researched herbal remedies and am waiting on a bottle of chanca piedra coming which translates to stone breaker to try and break the stones down to enable her to pass them.

Other than slight pain when passing urine and poo she seems happy and is eating well.

I am just wondering if anyone else has had a guinea pig with bladder stones and their experience.

Thanks

Hiyah, i think the best thing you could do is search on here for bladder stones and you will see many threads about it, it seems most days there are new threads about these blooming stones, hope your girl is comfortable, fingers crossed for you x

thanks very much. She seems to be comfortable, but i just hope she stays this way.

Once i start using the chanca peidra i will post to update on if it has helped.

Thanks

My boy Nibbler had a bladder stone. He had an op to remove the stone (turned out he'd already managed to pass it but that's a whole other story) and he recovered fine. Obviously there's risks involved in the op and it should only be done by a cavy savvy vet with a good rate of success.
