My youngest guinea pig came into heat. She was rumblestrutting for the first time and i noticed my neatured male trying to mount her. Ive just noticed she has dried blood on her vagina area i havent seen any other blood in the cage or on her so is it possible she got this from being humped? Shes just under 3 months old. Thanks

She shouldn’t be bleeding from being humped. And they don’t bleed when in heat either. Please get her seen by a vet as soon as possible. Try and send a clear photo and follow up with a phone call.
Are you sure it’s not something she ate? Like beetroot

No she hasnt had any beetroot and since i cleaned the dry blood off i haven't seen any more but this was only a couple hours ago. I'm going to ring the vet first thing.

I spoke to the vet this morning. Ive been told to separate her and keep a close eye on her. I noticed i tiny bit of dried blood on her parts first thing this morning but no other blood. Shes still eating great and she hasn't lost any weight.

Ive only noticed the tiny bit of dried blood and ive been told to separate her to rule out possibly being bitten as she is the bottom of the herd and has been getting pushed around lately. I have to ring back tomorrow and get her in if I'm still worried tomorrow and i will do that.

Have you noticed any bite wounds on her or any blood on any of the others? How many do you have living together, what sex are they and what ages are they. And what size cage are they in?

No but i do see her being nipped at by her aunt and mum and also getting chased by my neautered male. I have 4 living in a 3x6 c&c cage.

Ah, I see. Classic baby of the group. Are there any houses or areas of contention? Have you seen any fighting or bullying?

Shes a mummas girl and likes to stay close to her but mum doesnt like it at times. They have loads of places to hide but i have noticed her being on her own after being pushed out of places.

No fighting or bullying. She started rumblestrutting for the first time the other day so i think that started something off in the group.

I’m not sure about separating if there aren’t any obvious bite marks. Nipping won’t necessarily result in a wound, it’s usually we well placed nip that reminds a piggy of their position - not meant to break skin.

I agree with not separating her. My piggy Jess has had the same issues twice due to an infection (light bleeding), antibiotics helped to clear it up with her very quickly. Although this could be a completely different issue of course, just my experiences with her.
So a vet trip would definitely be a good idea (or a phone call/email with pictures etc, whatever your vets are doing with the lockdown atm). Hope the vets goes well with the little one.

I’ve also never heard of a piggy being bitten on its private parts. Sniffed yes. I’d maybe think about trying a different vet. Is your one guinea pig savvy? If you also update your profile with your location we can help you find one.

I'm going to keep her separated thats my decision i want to monitor her poo and pee. There has been no blood since ive cleaned her up but I'll be taking her to her vet tomorrow morning anyway and depending on what they say she'll be back in with the others by tomorrow evening.

Please make sure you do introductions again and not just putting her back in. Let us know what the vet says.

My vet has always been reliable but if I'm not happy with what they say after her check up I'll definitely take her to another practice. I'm in Bath and there are other options.

I had a video call with the vet this morning. After calming down and thinking about the situation she was being chased by my boar and possibly injured herself in the process. She does like to burrow into the hay piles. Shes been on her own since yesterday her pee and poo is fine she hasnt lost any weight and shes eating normally so thats really the only explanation but I'll keep a close eye on her and keep weighing in and in there is any change Ive been told she will need examined.

So was she bleeding from her back end or somewhere else? I think if she seems fine then I would put her back with the others.

I found dried blood on her lady parts. No blood anywhere else and shes fine. I'm going to get them all together this afternoon
