I have a female cavvey approx 4 years
Old. For the past few months she has had some blood loss which I have consulted a vet about a few weeks ago. The vet examined her and said she was pretty sure that it was an ovarian cyst causing it. She didn't scan her to confirm this but said she may need to be spayed but operating was risky. She suggested that because she was her normal self eating & drinking and not in pain etc to just leave it and keep an eye on her. Today while I've been out she has passed something that resembles placenta like tissue and quite a lot of it. Hard to explain really but on closer inspection with a gloved hand the texture was very much like grisell. Dark brown in colour almost like meat! She still seems fine in herself but I'm still worried. Anyone have any ideas or advice please?

How worrying for you. Sorry I can't help but hopefully some of our more experienced piggy keepers will be on later to help advise you. I have tagged @Wiebke in this post as she may be able to offer some advice.

Please seek veterinary advice as soon as possible - Evidently, something is not quite right!

However, I would imagine that your sow is at an increased risk of infection, and may need antibiotics immediately, as a preventative measure, while your veterinarian investigates/ diagnoses the cause of her current symptoms, and implements appropriate treatment!

Please ensure that your sow remains in a suitable environment, and that she remains hydrated!

Good luck!

I completely agree with Guinea-Pig-Gaga - you need to see a vet, preferably a piggy savvy vet over it latest by tomorrow; any major bleeding needs to. This is not normal and needs to be investigated by a competent vet; there can be something wrong with her womb, too. Infection is a major problem and she may need a spay.

PS: it would help us if we knew which country your are in. We have got a list of piggy savvy UK vets on the top bar.

Yes I'm in the uk (midlands) so thank you for the link to the specialist list. I will take her to the vets tomorrow but not back to the one I took her too a couple of weeks ago as I dont feel happy with the advice she gave me. Thank you.
