Hello all,

I am new to your forum and have a good question. How do you tell if a Guinea Pig Boar has been neutered or not? All information will be helpful, pictures would be great also.

Thank you

Yes, you can normally tell. This thread might be of interest to you.

How old is the boar? Can you post some pictures? Best thing to do would be to take him to the vets. My Henry has just been neutered and even at 3 mths old, you can tell the difference. I haven't any before pictures to compare to show you though unfortunately.

If you have a boar that you are unsure of, please make sure that they are not housed with sows until you have it confirmed.

There are a few pics on here too http://www.cavyspirit.com/neutering.htm

Welcome to the forum Mattmesa. Did you manage to figure out what you needed to with the info given above?

Neutered and intact males are discernible. Young intact males can appear to have a slight "bulge" or "swelling", sometimes just in a circle or donut shape around their anus and genitals; this tends to be the testicles developing, they will drop as they continue to grow. Neutered males have no "swelling" around their genitals once they have healed post-neuter.
