i took my 21 month old Guinea pig Chester to the vets about half an hour ago as I found a crusty type scab about the size of a 5p on his belly.

The vet squeezed it and loads of gunk and blood came out. He stayed there to go under sedation but I had a call to say he's now under general anaesthetic to have it cut out as it's dead skin and if I left it there would only be one outcome

Just burst into tears as he was eating and drinking normally and acting ok.

So scared. The vet thought it was an inverted nipple?

Anyone got any advice what to do with a pig post surgery or who has suffered similar?

Thanks x

Hi!

Please take a deep breath - blood filled mammary tumours are more common compared to an inverted nipple (which I have not come across before), but they are at least something that can be addressed once and for all, and your boy should enjoy a full and normal life afterwards. Yours has at least been found in time before it has started to really blow up and enter the blood stream. This kind of news tends to come as a big shock. Concentrate on the fact that it is something that can be dealt with. ;)
