Hello,

I was sent some information today about pet boarding and I am trying to work out whether this is something that I could do. I live in Plymouth so first of all I guess I would need to work out if there would be a demand for it locally? Is anyone on here local to me in Devon/Cornwall? It could also be useful for people who are going on holiday to Cornwall as they could drop off their guineas on their way through.

I've read online about the need to be registered and I know how much this costs and how to go about it. I've also read that you don't HAVE to have insurance for small animal boarding, but I don't know how potential customers would feel about this? Personally I am very protective of my furry babies and would rather know that the person looking after them is insured. Also I think this would give me better protection in case of (God forbid) escape, injury, illness or death of the guinea pig whilst it was in my care - we all know how quickly they can suddenly show signs of illness having been fine they day before. Does anyone offering boarding already that can share some of their experiences? Have you ever had to take a piggy to the vet whilst in your care? Did you have any trouble with the owners (e.g. complaint, non-payment) as a result?

Also, do people prefer to have their guinea pigs boarded indoors or outdoors? We are going to be buying some C&C grids for our own guinea pigs for the colder months, but I assume the 'peak period' for boarding is during the summer holidays (i.e. now) so I could perhaps use the same set up over the summer without having to buy additional housing (our guineas are outside pigs during the summer).

I haven't made up my mind about this yet, just looking to get some advice and feedback at the moment. I'm an experienced guinea pig owner and I absolutely love them - I'm thinking this could be a good way to combine a hobby (lifestyle?! Haha!) with earning some extra money, whilst also curbing my desire to adopt every guinea pig I see out there! ;) Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
