Hello there,
We currently own 3 female and 2 male pigs (not living together! :D) and we are really hooked by the Himalayan pigs but does anyone know of any trusty breeders?- we live in Yorkshire and it would be great in anyone knew of anyone who breeds the Himalayan type.
Thank-you xx

On this forum we highly reccomend adopting piggies from rescues as there is so many looking for homes! I'm sure if you have a good look around, a local rescue will have a little himi for you to adopt! :))

Hello

Welcome to the forum :)

Hope to see pictures if your piggies!

As we are a rescue friendly forum we do not allow discussion of breeding so you won't get anyone recommending one.

Himalayans are not common in rescues but you do see them!

I'm on my phone so cannot link you the map of recommended rescues so I hope someone will help and provide this for you :)

Edit: managed to get the recommended rescue link http://goo.gl/maps/mKDT if you have a look you may find a rescue in your area! All the rescues are Piggy Bank UK recommended rescues. Piggy Bank UK is a network of volunteers and rescues :)

Piggy Bank UK rescue map - all are of the highest standards. As all rescues have so many pigs waiting for homes (and many on quarantine/pregnancy watch) not all pigs will appear on the website, it is always worth contacting the rescue directly to enquire. Though pure bred himis come into rescue occasionally, himi crosses are very common.

Thanks everyone, I truly understand rescue is the best lane to go down! We recently rescued 2 males from a rescue in Leeds and they are really lovely boys! We just wanted a youngster for the females as they are still very young and rescues tend to have elder pigs :P
Thanks once again xx

The myth that rescues only tend to have older/ill pigs is just that - a myth.

The number of pregnant/mums with babies and under 6 months that come in often outweighs the number over 12 months.

This month I have had 7 himi crosses - 4 babies, 2 six months old and only one over 12 months.

If like to add to this if I may?

I really didn't no anything about adopting guinea pigs and when I did read about it I was convinced that the only ones that are around are older.

I was so wrong, I couldn't believe how many younger pigs need homes. Mine are just turning a year old and I've had the girls for at least 7 months.

Adopting my pigs has shown me that t I never have to buy another animal again as there are plenty needing good homes.

Well said...

My 3 rescue/adopted piggies are well under a year old, youngest was 16 weeks old and eldest was approx 6 months old. I was never bothered about the age, it was all about having the space, companion and bonding whatever the type...

All furries are just scrummy! :laluot_24:

My neutered boy was only 18wks old when i bought him home - and the rescue i got him from had just had a sow give birth to 2 babies!

There are loads of young/baby guinea pigs in rescue, you just have to keep your eyes open ;)

Same here. Until joining this forum I kind of assumed it would be like dog/cat rescues... a lot of older ones because babies get snapped up. But it seems like so many sows come in to rescues pregnant that rescues are often crawling with babies!

Himis are BEYOND cute, I hope you find a lovely one somewhere. :)

Same lol, I got Tyler for Fuzzy via boar dating after fuzzy's pal passed away and he was six weeks old at the time.
My second pair were 12 months and 9 weeks :)

This is our rescue boar, He's only 8 months old... Handsome chap...x)

He's nearly finished his quarantine, and soon will be home with us..

Our first rescue boys were born there and we pignapped them at six weeks old exactly...now 2 years old and huge but the most loving of all our piggies :(|)
Himalayans do pop up, I have three Himi sisters but they were actually from a breeder who was retiring and was trying to sell them for breeding :)>>>
I blagged them for nothing after telling her they would end up in the wrong hands - think she was relieved they were going to a great home.
I also have a mismarked Himi girl who someone was trying to offload her and three other babies onto a pet supplies store so I came home with them as well :x
In all honesty, they are my favourite piggy breed but since learning so much about piggies, looks are not important to me anymore...I love each and every one I see and have a real soft spot for 'elders' - would never hesitate to give older piggies a lovely retirement x)

How does the old saying go ......"not for all the tea in China".......6)

Hes just about at the six week period after having his pockets picked and hes in the process of being boar dated so fingers crossed soon he'll be coming home with us which will mean our family will double in size from 2 boys to 4 - yippee! It seems to have been a long wait but well worth it. We've been to the rescue to visit Ouzo and he is even more handsome in the fur drool

Aww so it's you that's having Ouzo! Lucky you, he's gorgeous.

When you went to see him, did you get to meet Primrose? I'm hopefully getting her either once we're sure she isn't pregnant or after she's had her babies.

We feel really privileged that we are being allowed to adopt Ouzo and another, can't wait until they come home.....:(|)

We think we did see Primrose, we dont know if its this time of year but it seems that all rescues are full to the brim. Hopefully Primrose is not pregnant and she can begin her forever home with you very soon.

Lisa & Ali xx
