We bought 2 guinea pig brothers in August, all has been seemingly well until Christmas Day,they started fighting, one ended up with a shredded ear! We have separated them, the dominant did seem to be happier but has this evening started bearing his teeth! He can’t get to the other brother as they are in separate cages. We have put them side by side because they were subdued when they were apart and seemed to need to know each other was there, now I’m not so sure? Anyone else had similar issues?

Welcome to the forum.
I would guess your boys have hit the teenage years when things can get very tricky with boars.
Has your injured boy seen the vet for his ear?

Boars need a lot of space - what size cage were they in?

Have a read of the forum threads on bonding. There’s helpful information on bonds in trouble.

Don’t panic. There are a number of options for moving forward which we. An help you with.
There are members with a lot more experience of boars who will also be able to help you.
I have sows.

I also have two brothers and one shredded the other’s ear in half! They had been separated and accidentally got back together. They were part of a surprise litter and I got them neutered as soon as they were old enough. Now they each have two females to live with and are very happy boys! They can interact through the bars as their cages are all connected. The sows are the bosses and keep the boys in line at my house!

Hi!

Your boys are now full-blown teenagers right in the thick of when the testosterone is literally singing in their body.

Please take the time to read this guide here. It takes you through the teenage months, what you can do and what you should avoid, how you can work out whether the bond is still viable or whether they no longer get on and what your options are in the latter case.
