Hi all

Just a quick question.

If I have a travel cage for two guinea pigs, then a cage at the caravan. Will they piggies be ok with the travelling. I just love travelling and my piggies.

Thanks

I can't see why it wouldn't work as long as the piggies aren't thrown around in the car! There is a user on here that takes their piggies away often but I can't remember their username (sorry!) x

One of our members @karonus has a Facebook page about his caravanning piggies and there is a thread somewhere on the forum but cant find it..

:wel:to the forum..

I will send karonus a message; he's been taking his piggies on his caravanning holidays for years. He uses a trailer for the transport, though.

Guinea pigs are OK with travelling especially once they get used to the routine. We have got an information thread with travelling tips at the top of our Daily Care section.

Which country are you in?

They look like the small animal carriers by Hagen.

Hi Michael, we use what are are called pet caddys
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nobby-Carri...UTF8&qid=1391448903&sr=8-2&keywords=pet+caddy

We transport 2 piggys per caddy with fleece over newspaper. If you want to PM me via facebook I am happy to pass on my mobile so we can chat better about caravanning with piggies.

We have been taking ours away now for 6 years, and we do about 40 nights a year on average.

Whenever my piggies have been on a journey of more than a few miles I've always put loads of hay in with them as a cushion & for eating. I then drive as if I've got kids in the back!

If there's only one or two I use similar case to karonus. When I took them 85 miles to the Guinea Pignic at Doncaster last year I had 5 piggies & loads of hay in a 1.2m cage on the back seat pushed up tight behind the front seats so no movement of cage.

Sorry this is a gap between replies. Just thought I'd ask another question to karonus. How do you keep the piggies cool on hot days?

Okay.

First thing is check what the forcast for the day is and based on how warm it will be do any or all of the following.

1 - Open the roof vents, smaller ones angled and main roof light locked down with fly screens closed.
2- If you have an awning, open windows into awning locked on catch.
3 - Place cage where they sleep at night or on back bunk with curtains partially closed to shield from direct sunlight.
4- Use a 500ml soft drink bottle 2/3 filled with water and placed in the freezer compartment. A 500ml bottle fits best and this iced bottle can be used in the cage as a colling block.

and finally change the water just prior to going out so that its fresh. Use the tap on site for drinking water so that its as cool as possible.
