I've just woken up to Rosie sitting in her house loudly chirping. Although I've heard of this behaviour before, in 8 years of owning guinea pigs I've never heard it before.

I'm not sure what's up with her because she's never done it before. I got her out and gave her some treats and she seemed to settle. Then I tried turning the light back off and she started again.

She's freaking out her cage mate and me. Any ideas why she's suddenly tonight started doing this?

Nope - My old girl has started chirping recently - she hadn't been spooked - she wasn't unwell - she is 6 1/2 yrs old and only started chirping recently - twice while I have been in the room - the rst of the time at 2-30 in the morning - she likes to wake me up - know one knows why they do it.

I've heard some of my pigs randomly chirp- I never could figure out what prompted it. It seemed totally random. Actually, I heard both Linney and Sundae chirp about four times in about six months... then they never, ever did it again. I've never heard my current pigs chirp at all. You may never know what it was all about!

Haha thank you it was all very odd cause there was nothing that spooked her and there wasn't even any dominance going on before hand. Very strange piggies :3

Chirping is very rare. No one knows why they do it. I have seen Widget go from wandering around the cage to stopping and beginning to chirp then afterwards go off and eat some food with nothing upsetting or startling her - very strange. Widget chirps 2-3 times a year... she was doing it again the other night. Chickpea just sat watching her in silence. I think she is communicating with the MotherShip :))
