I got the fright of my life earlier. Eleanor and Eliza was eating their tea (little gem, pepper and cucumber) whilst I was ironing. I looked at Eliza and noticed that she was choking or something. She was kind of hacking and then coughed. She is fine now but it was a very worrying few seconds.

LOL they can be right little piggies when they eat, they don't eat it properly :)) Glad she's ok now

I think it's just a guinea pig thing, mine does it quite a lot too, just sits there looking like he's trying to get something out of his mouth then he either manages to sort it or has a cough and he's fine again, I wouldn't worry about it unless it goes on for a long time. I think it could be that they eat a hair or they just don't chew it properly so it doesn't go down right and they have to move it back onto their teeth to munch it a bit more. Daft critters :)

Eccles does it too, big appetite for a little guy so he coughs a lot! :o

I can be frightening, but thankfully, they usually sort themselves out pretty quickly!

A few times mine have heaved and rasped before coughing. They are indeed greedy little sods who like to terrify their poor mummies!

My two have done this recently and I only noticed it as have been doing shorter hours recently so am at home more during the day......it's frightening at first, but as long as it's not happening too frequently i don't think it's anything too much to worry about.

Bless'them
xx

Bradders does this to he even chokes wen he drinks his water (daft little piggy) anyone would think i was gonna take it off him lol

Mildred and Holly choke alot rolleyes They eat like they have been starved for days and shovel veg in so fast they choke and cough - nearly gave me a heartattack when I first heard them, now they are always at it and I just sigh at them and tell them it's not a race girls rolleyes

Max does this quite a lot.... I'm used to it now, its quite cute hearing his "ahee aheee" little cough. Its never gone on long and is usually when hes stuffing his chops at lightening speed!

Greedy piggies! so Id say dont worry its quite common!

yep spikey does this too.. first time it happened i did get a fright, but she's done it a few times since, usually if she's eating her hay too quickly. One time she did it and got sick in her mouth and ate it then, well i think it was sick, i could hear something come up and then her chewing away.. LOL

some of mine do this aswell noramlly 2sec after i put veggies in mine mroamlly do one little caugh and there ok

I didn't think piggies could be sick? ?/

Chestnut does it, it scared the life out of me!
I thought something terrible was going to happen.
He has only done it a couple of times and it has only lasted about 2 mins.

I am so glad to hear that someone elses piggies do this.. one of mine had started doing this recently. we took him to the vet and the only thing she could see in his mouth was food (apparently that's quite normal for piggies)
She suggested everything be diced so I cut everything up super small now :)

Hello,

Have you checked your piggies teeth just to make sure they are ok? I have had a dental piggie who used to cough because he couldn't chew his food properly as his teeth were overgrown. If he carries on doing it, it might be worth getting a good vet to check them over to be on the safe side.

xx

Gus did that once and I had to actually pull out hay from his gob! It had went in like a inverted v and got wedged between throat and cheeks. Poor Gus but I think it scared me more than him. Once I got it out he went right back to attacking the hay lol
