Guinea Pig Compost?

My wife has been asking me if all the hay/wee/poo would work on a compost heap. Can't see why it wouldn't but thought I'd check first

Any of you guys use it?

Well I reckon that it would for sure, it's all natural, full of goodness (in it's own way).

A neighbour of mine asked if he could have all my droppings for his garden once :red however I'm not inclined to assist this person in any way. I love to see the scattering of of piggy poo on the lawn, it's good for it.

I'd do it if I had the need or time for a compost heap.

I've got a compost bin and I often throw piggy poo in, hay less so as use shavings under my hay tray and not sure about them, I think woodier/thicker materials are supposed to take longer to break down but sure they'd be fine on a compost heap, in fact when I used to keep horses we used to put the shavings and hay on one big much pile and people used to come and take it for compost

oh and my bin says - NO ANIMAL WASTE but think that's more of a regulatory thing than because it won't break down

i compost all my animals waste ( apart from the dogs and cats)
The guinea pig / rabbit bedding (before they all pased away) went straight down to the compost heap and now after a year its looking brilliant, i have grown some plants in it and its now just about ready for my veggie patch , which we will be doing today.

As for recycling it, tbh i did used to put it in the recycling bin if i had too much to fit on the compost heap, stick leaves and grass on top and by the time they've tipped it in the lorry its too late to say no rolleyes

All mine goes on the muckheap at the yard, as it is all biodegradable. I have no idea as to how good it is for plants tbh, horse manure is of course amazing for plants but not quite sure on the composition of guinea poo. Their guts are not dissimilar to horses though so would imagine it would be fairly good...I now worryingly want to research guinea pig poo...

Thats because dog and cat faeces can carry and germinate disease. Guinea pig and rabbit poo's are an excellent accelerator so ideal for the compost. Our leaflet says you may need to soak hay before putting it in depends how much is going in in comparison to more wet items

I use my piggies poo and hay for compost. The first year I had the garden, I didn't compost at all. The next year I used piggy poo, and it made a HUGE difference

my friend has all the cleaning out waste for her compost heap

I have the poops and wees on my lawn when they are in the run - although pepper eats the poo rolleyes and I put the newspaper once its dried in the recycling box (I know I am mean :red but its all recyclable)
