So I've had my Trixie for about a week now. And I only have ONE piggy (but she seems fine since I spend time with her)... Well today at 6 am she woke me up making a loud whistle-ish (sounding like a chirp, like a bird?) noise. She's eating and drinking a lot so I don't think she's sad or unhappy about anything. She's never made this noise before... only today, and she's running around and hiding in her tunnel... But every now and then she makes that "noise". Honestly I have no idea what it is. I have no clue if the noise she's making is good or bad. My dad said that's just what guinea pigs do (he had one when he was younger it did the same thing). idk? HELP lol

It's almost like a squeak that starts low, and ends in a higher pitch? And she'll do that for a long time!

:o :o :o i have a suspicion that you've just heard the most sort out of the piggie 'talks' the song :smitten: :smitten:

if it 's like a bird chirping it's their song :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

you lucky girl if it is.... i've only heard it from other friends piggies and there's some to compare with on YouTube ...

awwwwwwwwwwwww :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: i hope it is :smitten:

hah well, uhm I don't think it's "chirping" it's more of a loud "SQEAAAAAAAAAAK"... it starts out soft and low, and then gets high pitched at the end... some say it's the "lonely pig" sound but she's eating and running around in all her favorite spots of the cage so I don't think she's depressed. It's a sound that's indescribable, and almost sounds like a cry? How would you describe you piggy's talking/noises?

you I was on that site, and even though none of those sounds are even close to what she's doing lol... I know some sounds you could probably figure out but who sits there and assigns those noises to a certain mood? I mean Who says a certain noise means ONE thing? lol

I know... I thought some of the sounds sounded exactly the same! It has a good example of the chirping though. To be honest, she's your piggie and you will know best, especially if you spend a lot of time with her. You'll know if she gets depressed or seems lonely. It's clear you adore her, just trust your instincts :)

you well some people might think they know what the sounds mean, but not all guineas are the same! Like people, we have are own thing and ways of showing our moods lol... so I really think she's fine cause she's eating and having a good time (what seems to me lol)... she's quiet now, proabably taking a nap.. She makes the squeak after she eats, and when she runs around, or if she's in her little tube or house =]. This is the first I've heard her get so loud! My mom says it's because she's getting used to things and she's not as scared idk lol.

My Dave makes a variety of different sounds, when he is a happy chappy, or when its dinner time, he kinda chirps. When running around and popcorning he squeaks with every step! Very funny! And on a rare occasion, he has growled too!

aww that's cute though, I've never heard Trixie chirp, it's a shame though... I have the noise recorded on my phone but it costs money to send in an email! so later I'll try to record it with my camera. I'm sure Trixie's fine... but at the same time I'm concerned since I've never owned a piggy before, and just today she started squeaking like that :smitten:. it's so cute though! She also does that sqeak with popcorning

OH MY GOSH :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I know know what that sound is, and it's completely normal (thank god) she's just wheeking lol.. idk maybe she was hungrey or excited?

I found a video with the exact same noise.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpRVr5rcjJg

LOL just listened to the video...your piggy is hungry! or at least thinsk they are getting something.

My Bob does this when he hears the fridge opening (even though he's in the livingroom and the fridge is in the kitchen) or when he hears a carrier bag rustling. Sometimes he'll stand at the dried food bowl looking at me and wheek :D

he also makes this noise when he's really happy or when he is seperated from John and is looking for him.

Mine do that when i go into their room in the morning or when they can't find eachother lol, it's cute and completely normal :) x

LOL! That's great, at least you've figured it out. Yup, I can't even go into my kitchen without setting Pigpig off this way... ;D

lol I'm so releived ... I thought it was something bad and really she was just talking. Her cage is in my room, and since I was still asleep I guess she knew I was in the room so she must have wanted my attention or more hay :D. Either way it's so sweet and cute! She does it when I walk into my room, and when she eats/drinks. Is that a piggy's way of talking to you? She must know who I am, because she doesn't wheek to anyone else when they're in my room talking to her.... only me. Awww she's doing it now :smitten:.... she must want more of my attention. :)

I think it probably is a way of talking to you, mine tend to do it when they want something, not when i'm holding them etc. They seem to sort of cluck to eachother, they only wheek to eachother when they can't see the other one but they can hear them lol quite cute! x

I have a link to a clip of guinae song if you want it to see if it sounds anything like what you're hearing...
It's not a bad thing, you'll know a bad noise when you hear one, they sound scared or angry.
Like Dandylion chatters at me sometimes, often a bad noise but with Dandy it doesn't sound bad she just warning me that if I come to close she'll run and giving me a little telling off for oversleeping and not giving her food. But I once heard her really scared when I first got her and she made hardly any noise at all, just soft wheekings but she sounded scared.

you I think it's just the way she speaks to me. :smitten: :smitten:

I have a video on you tube of her, uhh don't mind my baby babble =P and the crappy quality lol oh man the video is so embarassing... but since it's my guinea pig it's still cute hah..

lol or atleast better lighting. I think I made her tired, cause when I played with her that time (in the video) she wasn't as "crazy" lol... She also didn't squeak much either. :D

My piggies are a lot more independant now I got Dandylion. Acorah used to play with me all the time, but all videos I'd take would be under the bed :P S'why I don't have any :P

awww =] ... regardless if you can take vids or not it sounds to me like your piggies are cute! I need to take a better vid =P.. aww I think I hear her squeaking now <3 :smitten:

Oh they are, you should see them with the bunny. they get as close as they can and sit there talking to him. (they're in the cage when he's in that room though)
Oh yes -claps hands- show me a better vid

That's the same noise Nutmeg and Brandy make sometimes.

They do it when they've been left in the hutch alone whilst the other two have been put out on the grass. (I can only carry one at once so someone has to be last!). I think it's their way of demanding attention, a kind of, "how dare you ignore me" squeak. :D

Ooooh I'm on the phone to my sister and Kara pig decieded to make a noise like the one you described, Apparently it's her off and leave me alone noise. -shrugs-

Aww, =]. I love that squeak! I think it's the "pay attention to me" thing :smitten:

Well for the first time today, I picked Trixie up =]... and got to pet her, since I cleaned out her cage I put her in a box....she seemed to be more calm in the box, because she let me touch her when she was in it. It was so cute! But as soon as she got back in her cage, she spazzed when I'd touch her. :D.... Uhh she kinda hit her head on the box since she spazzed out of my hands and hit the side of the box when I picked her up to set her down in it.... I'm sure she didn't get hurt since she's moving around, popcorning, and eating/drinking... She gave me quite a scare though! :smitten:
