As cute as they are, the number of coughs I'm hearing from my ladypigs are getting a bit worrying! Its possible that its just down to getting overexcited and inhaling a bit of hay but one of them had the coughs last night, and the other seems to have the coughs tonight. Not 100% certain which one it is... its hard to tell when they're both stomping round the cage. Theres no other signs of illness and I've checked as far as I can see in both their mouths.

Is this just something that happens sometimes? It worries me as they are shelties with very short noses which can be a problem with other breeds of animals.

It can be something that just happens yes but it can also be a sign of a heart issue so I would keep an eye on it. It would be a big coincidence if it was both of them though, so hopefully they are just eating too quickly.

They are related so heart issues are a worry - as far as I can see both are currently in good health though.

Just keep an eye out for any laboured breathing, blue noses or lips, abdominal bloating, hooting followed by a cough, weight loss and also recurrent URIs. I can give you a full list of symptoms if needed.

Picked them both up for a health check and neither of them feel warm! I often notice this with them. Despite the thick long fur they both feel cold when picked up.

Just keep an eye on the situation for now and see if you can work out which one is coughing, I can then help a bit more if needed. Also watch how they breathe and let me know if they are nodding as they breathe.
