Hi all, sorry I’m new here and have no idea if I’m posting in the right place.
We bought two guinea pigs from pets at home back in September, Star and Copper. Everything was fine until yesterday evening, my little girl said Copper wasn’t eating when she went to feed them, she put the veggies in the cage and just left them to it. I checked on them and Copper was just sitting in the corner of the cage and Star was in the little piggie house, I checked on him and he seemed fine. I was worried about Copper because he’s usually the more boisterous piggie and Star is much more quiet.
I continued to check on Copper till around 12am when I went to bed, at 6am I got up to check on him and see a pair of back legs poking out from the piggie house, Star has died. I’m absolutely devastated but very confused as it seemed more like Copper was the one not feeling well, is it likely that he’ll go next? I feel like I must have done something wrong for one of them to seem so off and the other to have died all within 12 hours.

I’m so sorry for your loss, please get your poorly piggy to the vet to make sure it’s nothing serious

Welcome to the forum.
I am so sorry for your loss.

I agree - the other piggy needs to see a vet.
Let us know how you get on.

He died before I had the chance to get him to a vet. They were both running around playing together up until yesterday evening, I’m not sure what happened but I’m absolutely devastated.

Sorry for you loss 😔
Make sure you see a vet that knows about guinea pigs, else you will be wasting your own , your pigs time and your money. Have you been feeding hay everyday? Best wishes 👍.

Do I understand correctly that the sick piggy has also died?
If so I am so very sorry- it’s no wonder you are devastated.

Aw, that’s so sad. So sorry for your second loss x sleep tight both little piggies x

Yes the sick piggie also died not long after the first. Called pets at home yesterday and straight away they offered to give me the money back or to go pick new piggies, without them seeing bodies or anything makes me think it’s possibly not an isolated incident 🤔

I agree, find a good rescue locally, they have vet checked piggies longing for a forever home x

Hello, I am so sorry for your loss. I know I am a bit late replying to this but I have had a similar experience and thought I should share. I got two female piggies from pets at home in the summer, I went in to see them one morning and one of them had lost all movement - she couldn't even lift her head, but she was alive. It turns out she had a spinal/neurological issue the vet said most likely since birth, unfortunately she didn't make it. But literally the day before she was running around. It amazed me how quickly it all happened, I agree that it is probably(and sadly) not an uncommon event.
