I want to start using towels to bed my guinea pigs on as I'm fed up with vaccuming up spilled pine bedding from their spontaeous bouts of running around. The urine is fairly odorless on fabrics and I don't mind wee wee stains on the towels, and their poops could simply roll right off the cloth. One thing that occurred to me. Rather than throwing away their poop, to use it as compost for various plants. I want to start a garden soon and I know compost will be necessary. But I wanted to get some info as to whether or not the droppings would make good compost and if it would be okay to use it for vegetables. I don't want to go into anything like this misinformed.

Yes their poop is great for compost because they are vegeterians. When I used recycled paper pellet bedding, then organic sugar cane mulch, the whole lot went on to the garden - bedding and whatever was in it. Since then I've gone on to towels and fleece and now vetbed and I just put the poops and any hay out onto the garden. I am much happier with fabric based bedding and I think the boys are too. I still put a towel down on top of the bed in the kitchen area because they seem to really love laying down on towels.

Our girls used wet newspaper, hay and poops are being composted (at the moment one of the guys at work is taking it as i have enough) :)

One thing with towels is to make sure it's a weave that they can't get their little claws stuck in. You could always use fleece too.
