Guinea Pig Dying!

Hi all yesterday I came out to find one of my gp(I have 4) had died she was only a year. Today I went to feed them and another one was laying on her side they are outdoor gp so I have bought her indoors with me but she won't eat/drink and is just lying there. I guess she will go tonight the other 2 seem fine. Any ideas why suddenly would die?

Sorry just to add she was lively yesterday and still eating although her hair seemed thin I can see her skin. I have her next to me but worried about the other 2 I have cleaned there cage replaced food/water bedding etc. Kids are devested 2 in one weekend.

can you get to a vets tonight? They go downhill so fast I'd advise a vet visit as soon as you can. I'd take all of them just to be sure. It could be anything tbh, illness or genetic or even the temperature. Sounds like you need medical advise fast. The lack of hair is very worrying, sounds like something is going on & also means staying warm enough is hard. Be aware that sudden changes in temperature (i.e being bought inside from outside & vice versa) can cause problems also, it has to be a gradual temperature change to be safe.

I would advise emergency vets tonight. To lose two in such a short space may indicate environmental factors. Have they ate anything out of ordinary? I am sorry for your loss, please get you little piggy medical attention as soon as possible.

Hi! I am ever so sorry for your loss. It is our all worst nightmare when we are dealing with a sudden mystery death in more than one piggy.

Please see a vet and have your remaining piggies vet checked. Two piggies dying within a day of each other either points to a highly infectious or an environmental/poison vector. You may want to consider whether it is worth asking for a post mortem examination of one your dead girls by your vet. It is not cheap, but the only way to hopefully get an answer.

Please do not put the remaining girls back before you haven't thoroughly deep cleaned and disinfected their hutch or shed.

I'm really sorry for your losses. To lose two in such a short span, I would worry either about a communicable illness (like a bad respiratory bug) or something environmental (something they ate or were exposed to, cold weather, etc.) I would move the other pigs indoors for now and watch for symptoms and if you're able, see a vet to assess for illness. I hope the remaining two pigs do well!

Thank you all unfortunately she died this morning. I have just been out and the other 2 seem fine. I will clean the hutch out to be on the safe side. I have not been able to get them out much due to snow and ice on the grass etc could that be it?

Sorry to ask this while you are so sad about losing two but are the other piggies in a warm enough hutch? It’s such a cold spell that they may have felt too cold. Do you have heat pads in beside them plus snugglesafe etc to keep them warm. Is your hutch covered and well insulated?

You need to take your remaining 2 to the vet asap and I'd also bring them inside. If it's snowing it's highly likely it's far too cold for them.

I'm sorry for your losses, hopefully your remaining 2 can survive this. Unfortunately in freezing weather piggies don't do well at all as they are similar to us in what temperatures they can withstand. 17-24 degrees is the normal temperature for a piggy climate so below freezing will certainly take its toll.

Pls bring the piggies inside of you don't have heating etc. it's very cold and you know if you can take the two to vets asap. we all here to get and help you in any way possible.
