Hi,
My old guinea pig has damaged (dislocated) her front left leg. I think this is the reason that she isn't eating, drinking or cleaning herself but I am worried she might be dying. She is now 6 years old and is due to visit the vets on Tuesday but I am worried that she won't last till then. What do you think?
Also, is it likely that she will be put under anaesthetic (and surviving)?
What are the chances of her being put down?
Thanks

She won't last til then if she isn't eating and that would be a clear indicator that she needs to see an emergency vet. Please do not make her wait until tuesday. Without a vet examination it is impossible to say what the issue might be and what the possible treatment would be

Most vets will have an emergency number on their phones when the surgery is closed.
I agree that she does need to see a vet fairly urgently.
Let us know how things go

Get her to an exotic vet ASAP. It’s life or death really. I think she will do fine under anaesthetic, my boy is nearly five and weighs half what he should, he’s basically a bag of bones bless him, and he did perfectly fine with the anaesthetic.

She may be refusing food becasue she is in pain.
If she has dislocated or broken her leg she is suffering.
Please do not let this go on until Tuesday - she needs to see a vet as a matter of urgency.
It is imposible for us to predict the outcome, but whatever happens she does not deserve to suffer or be in pain until Tuesday.

The vets are booked up completely until Tuesday. I don't want to see her suffer but I have no other choice. I think she will die tonight or sometime very soon.

If you state it’s an emergency, that she’s not eating or drinking and needs to be seen ASAP, the vet will most likely make time

Roughly where are you? Most vets in the UK do emergency appointments - but without knowing even what continent you are its hard to be able to offer you anything other than very generic advice.

What's you're regular vets? If you call them and they don't offer a 24 hour service themselves they should have a recorded message giving you the number of a local practice that does - ring it and tell them you need an emergency appointment.

I don't know if these guys are in the recommended vets list but they are at least open for emergencies and local. I hope your piggy will be ok Screenshot_20190504-215750.webp

Please get that emergency appointment. Vets4Pets are open Sundays. I had to take advantage of that a couple of years ago and they didn't charge extra for a Sunday appointment. If you cannot get the Harrogate recommended vet, then at least try the Vets4Pets. Give your piggy lots of love and keep her warm.. I send my best wishes to her and you.

I really hope you can get her seen before Tuesday, as she is likely in a lot of pain. Will your vet not take you for an emergency visit? Or is there an emergency vet clinic in your area? At least they could give her some kind of pain relief.

My local Vets4Pets is really good and I had to use a different one in an emergency and they were really good too. I have recommended my local Vets4Pets on the forum. If they are in a Pets at Home store they tend to see lots of piggies. Good luck let us know how you get on.

@SquirtandSqueak , how are things going today? I've been thinking of you and your girl and keeping my fingers crossed you've found a vet that can see her and help her to be more comfortable.
