Guinea pig dying

Hi. I’m not sure why I’m posting this, probably because I’m desperate and know there’s nothing I can do now but I want want hope.

A few days ago my piggie stopped eating his pellets, and less hay. I should have been concerned but because he was still eating his veggies and didn’t completely stop consuming hay I payed no attention and thought he was picky bc the pellets were stale and he usually had farm hay but I got him oxbow for the first time (no farm to get it from rn). Fast forward to today, he still barely ate his pellets but ate a lot of his veggies, until today when I got a new bag of fresh pellets. He ate some, not a lot but more than the past few days.
He seemed fine this morning and all day until about an hour ago when I brought him his nightly romance lettuce. He slowly walked over and nibbled on it before retreating back into his hidey. This made me concerned so I went and googled my concerns and I felt like he was dying, I wanted to try and syringe feed him oxbow guinea pig food since maybe the issue was that he from less hay/pellets and so I mixed the oxbow brand pellets with water in a 1 mm syringe (I think) and feed it to him. I put him down in cage and few minas later he was flopped on the ground. I just looked at him and he looked as if he was trying to crawl back into his house so defeated i helped moved in back in there and left him there because if he’s dying he probably wanted to be alone in the house. There’s probably nothing I can do now is there?
 
I'm so sorry that you find yourself in this situation. Is there an emergency (after hours) vet in your area?

I don’t think so. When he had a respiratory infection over a year ago we called quite a few vets in our area and said they couldn’t do anything abt it bc they don’t know guinea pigs. Closest vet that would accept us is over an away and the city is in lockdown

Hi!

I am very sorry because I am most probably too late as you have posted during the very early UK morning hours but we have both an emergency care guide to help you with care at home and feeding support when your piggy is very ill and off feeding and in which the last chapter deals with how to spot whether your piggy is dying and what you can do for them.
We have also have got a dedicated guide that talks you through the dying process step-by-step if your piggy is making their journey to the Rainbow Bridge before you can see a vet, especially outside the UK and access to vets is generally difficult; sadly even more so since the pandemic.

Vet care has been open in the UK and I travelled out of area to have an issue dealt with. Not sure if that's the same with you. Sorry for your situation. Piggy sounds very loved.

The poster is in Canada and I don’t think they have 24 hour vet care like they do here.

Not really, no. There are emergency vets that may be open overnight in large cities, but nothing in smaller areas and, in my experience, emergency vets have very minimal experience with exotics despite charging an arm and a leg for appointments.

The out-of-hours here are expensive as well, and are generally not experienced.
