Specialist Guinea Pig Eating But Popping Twice A Day.

I don't know about the availability of things in India but please look at the health and illness sticky threads like the first aid kit and see if you can get any of it in your area. You really will need to call around to find a vet to help in case it gets worse.

Have you found somewhere cooler for him?

The basement where he has been kept into is way cooler... I wear a quilt to beat the temperature there.
 
This was prescribed by one vet I could get hold on to, TELEPHONICALLY. He lives far away in another city
 
The vet thinks he has colitis... His poop is mushy, and he weighs just 500 g, he's eating very little.
The medicines are as follows:
Aciloc-S: Magaldrate, Smithecone, and Oxetacaine
Vizylac: Lactic Acid Bacillus Powder
Nor-metrogyl: Norfloxacin and Metronidazole Benzoate
Bandy Plus: Ivermectin and Albendazole

Are they safe? Will it help him?
PS: He's still not eating hay,even when I changed it. My sis grounded the hay and mixed it with his fav veggies, he declined it as well. He drinks a lot of water and scratches quite often.

Aciloc-S is a combination of three ingredients that work on a sour stomach. simethicone is an anti-gassing ingredient. I have not seen it used in guinea pigs

I also don't have experience with Nor-metrogyl, which is a combination of two antibacterial antibiotics.
Norfloxacin is likely from the same group as baytril (enroflaxacin).

Ivermectin is used for mites in guinea pigs. Albendazole is a broad spectrum antiparasiticum; not sure whether the latter is safe for guinea pigs.

I have not seen any of these medications used on guinea pigs. Simethicone is something in this country called infacol but it has little use at helping gas build up.

I would suggest your vet potentially sends an email to an exotics vet for advice. I can happily give ours out if you wish, please just PM me if you would like it.

Colitis is fairly uncommon in guinea pigs and soft feaces can be a sign of many different things. To help with the guts I would probably look at getting high fibre food into your pig to help return normal gut flora and motility. Are you able to obtain syringe feeding formula?

To add norfloxacin is the same group of medications as baytril in this country and it is combined with metronidazole another type of antibiotic. These won't be helping the guts unless your vet is specifically worried about an overgrowth of gut bacteria?

Hey shubhi...did your GP survive? I am also from India, New Delhi. My female GP is very ill and I am also not able to find good vet here.
I feel helpless...just wanted to ask if your gp are doing great now? Are they fine and did your sick gp survive back then?

Please can I ask that you don’t resurrect old threads. Old threads being reopened means we may miss new threads in what is a very busy health section.
The original posters of old threads most often no longer come onto the forum so you are not likely to get any response to such threads.
