Hi,
I have a 9 month old Abbysinian guinea pig female, for quite a while she has been getting hair loss and a few scabs. Out of the blue yesterday she had quite bad sore on the top of her back. I have been putting dermasol cream as prescribed by my vet. All of the other girls are fine that live with her so I was wondering if it was eczema?
Thanks:)

Hi guinealover,

Has she been treated for mites at all? Hair loss and scabs are very often due to mites, which can be treated with Ivermectin. Mites do not always jump to other pigs so it's something worth treating for.

A scab that appears very quickly suggests intense itching and scratching. The usual cause is mites.
