I hope that you have been able to have your boy seen by now.
Eye injuries deteriorate very quickly and the damage can be larger than you can see with your naked eye. That is why a prompt vet trip is so important.
The sooner you can step in with the prescribed medication, the quicker they tend to heal. The blueish gunk sitting on the eye surface is in fact an eye ulcer sitting on the injured spot and then spreading across the eye. This can happen in a matter of hours.
If you have trouble getting the drops or gel into a very sore eye, try to sit your piggy on your lap, facing away from you. place a bowl or plate of its favourite veg, fresh grass or treat in front of it and let it tuck in. Once it is fully absorbed in eating, it is much easier to sneak in the gel from behind. You may still need a few tries, but not quite as many. Guinea pigs don't multitask!
What can additionally help and is often prescribed now by vets are visco tears (artificial tears) to help with the lubrication and the discomfort. You give them half an hour after the antibiotic eye drops or gel. Generally, visco tear gel is more effective as it works for longer. You can get visco tears in any pharmacy. Just say they are for yourself (dry eyes).
All the best!
