Hi,

We have had two little piggies for a week, and ones ended up with hay in her eye and has developed an ulcer.

She's at the vets now having an op, but I am worried since the other one is a little randy at the moment and is trying to mount her all the time. Should I separate them?

Many thanks

Barry

Hello, welcome to the forum. When your piggie comes round from the op they will be drowsy so yes, best to separate for a short while, can you put a divider in the cage? if not can you put two cages together so they can see each other.

Also make sure the vet gives you some painkiller for the next few days for post op care. Hope your little one recovers soon

Hello,

My little lady Biscuit had an eye op (eye removal) in January and she was separated from her pals for a few days until she built up some energy and her eye began to heal. I found that my other two were very interested in the stitches so I kept them away but put her in daily for a hello etc and sat by why they were together.

I kept her in a hutch opposite so they could see/hear each other.

My other lady sadly has to go for an eye op on Tuesday so sending you big hugs and hoping that all goes well.

xx

I would seperate for a short time if possible, it really does depend on the piggies themselves. But with a divider there is little chance on either missing their friend and then there is less chance of the other piggie chewing/licking the surgical wound.

Hi,

So far so good. We kept them together and both are happy and acting normally. We switched the wood shavings for kitchen roll for the short term (have order vetbed) and this kept them both entertained

Fingers crossed the op worked .

We got the piggies from petsathome so they have covered all the vet fees under the two week heath guarantee. We have to go back for a check up on Thursday and then the stitch will hopefully be removed the week after

Really pleased that all seems to be going well. Hopefully it has worked.
