Hello,
one of my guinea pig (male) seems to have a very serious injury underneath the eye (a lot of redness). This was especially aggravated by continous scratching (and when he scratches there, we can hear him screaming). Since eye problems can worsen very rapidly, are there any suggestions?
We tried to apply certain products (solutions to relieve irritation and redness) to improve his situation.
Unfortunately no positive results.
We are planning to get him to the vet as soon as possible.
Any help/tips in the meantime? Thanks.

Please see a vet as soon as you have a vet open (assuming you don’t have emergency access to a vet today) - this looks to be a very nasty problem.
We will never recommend you try to treat anything yourself or use any products without vet approval

I hope your piggy is ok

Actually just looking at the hair under his ear - is there a bald patch with white crusty skin?

Did the very sore area start as a bald patch with white crusty skin as well?

If it did start as a white patch, and there is another bald patch with white skin, then it is possible that this could be ringworm.
Unfortunately as you have put creams etc on then it can mask the identifying signs needed to diagnose.

You do of course need a vet to diagnose the issue and treat properly, but I have added our ringworm guide below just in case that is what it turns out to be. It fully explains the proper treatment and thorough disinfection and hygiene that is needed to stop is spreading to you and any other people and animals in your house.

Thank you very much. Hoping the vet will find a solution, I'll stop using non-authorized products. Regarding the sorea area, it did not start as a bald patch with white crusty skin.
First it was irritated and it was getting red under the eye. However, the sore area expanded itself very quickly in 1/2 days (probably from scratching). Today some crust was formed. A very big problem is that he scratches that area a lot so it got worse.

I don't believe it's a ringworm (but I'll have to wait for the vet to confirm), but thanks for the guide. Much appreciated, if this is the case.

Hi how did the vet appointment go?
Today we brought him to the vet. The vet used the microscope and deeply analyzed him multiple times for almost 2 hours. Based on her analysis, the problem is not of fungal origin (or there's very little possibility). She applied an anti-parasitic solution. She also prescribed treatment (Betadine 10% skin solution disinfection and cleaning for damaged skin) for 10 days to apply to the guinea pig. I sure hope it will work. I will eventually update for future (hopefully positive) results.

I hope piggy gets better soon. Good luck with the treatment, I hope it goes well 🙏

Update after 11 days of treatment.
The redness is gradually going away and hair is starting to grow back (as you can see in the photo).
Thankfully positive results are coming.
It's still not over yet though.
