I am just awaiting a response from the vets regarding my Guinea pigs eye. One of my guinea pigs eyes has clouded over, I have cleaned the eye and checked for any pieces of hay or for anything else that is the eye but looks completely clear. Has anyone got any advise whilst I await for a response from the vet?

With eyes, there is nothing you can do yourself.
Piggy ideally needs to be checked by a vet, dye added into the eye to check the extent of ulceration and if there is any further bits of hay etc stuck in places that you simply won’t be able to see. Hopefully they will still offer to do this but
Hay pokes are easily treated when done quickly, so you’ve done the right thing in speaking to a vet quickly. If it is a haypoke injury then you will likely be prescribed antibiotic drops and hopefully a pain killer

Your piggy has got an ulcerating eye injury (likely from a hay poke). Good that you have contacted your vets before coming here. Eye injuries can deteriorate very quickly.

The sooner you can step in with the antibiotic eye drops prescribed by your vet, the quicker the healing process. If they don't also prescribe a lubricant, please ask them for it or get some artificial tear gel (preferably to drops as longer lasting in effect and easier to apply although drops will also work) from your pharmacy. The latter is not a medication but it really helps with the discomfort and supports/speeds up the healing process. My piggy savvy vet always prescribes it; and I have noticed a difference since with my own hay poke piggies.

So my piggie has this today as well, but we can’t get her into the vet until tomorrow.
Is there anything we can do to help her in the meantime?
Thanks

Get some sterilised artificial tear gel or drops with no other additives and apply 3-6 times in 24 hours to keep the eye hydrated and for more comfort. Otherwise please leave well alone.

It is not considered good online manners to hijack somebody else's support thread, especially if this is leading to confusion and the newcomer drawing attention away from the original poster. Thank you.

Thanks for the advice. But perhaps moderators could send a private message to people who you think have bad manners and are hijacking (rather over the top descriptions I would say).
