Hi, I have recently rescued a beautiful sow called "Fluff". I am a little concerned as she has different coloured eyes (one normal colour and one red) could this mean she has a cataract in the red eye. She is only about 5 mths old.:{

How bizarre...Can we have a picture? Would be interesting to see. :)

Hello and welcome to the forum, it would be very useful if you could add a pic of both her eyes.

Has she any discharge, cloudiness or difference in size of her eyes? It is possible (though I've not seen it before) that she has odd coloured eyes due to the pigmentation of her coat and it is not a health issue at all.

Hi suzy, She has no discharge, cloudiness or difference in the size of her eyes. Her coat is black and white. I will take some photo's and post them later today.

Does she have a patch over one eye and not the other? I have one here with eyes that are different colours. Not that common in pigs, but is possible.

Hi, think i have mastered getting photos uploaded.........fingers crossed rolleyes

Oops :)) Are you using photobucket? That's the easiest way to upload pics onto the forum.

That doesn't look red to me, looks cloudy? If you wait until it's dark and shine a flash light in it, what do you see? Is the iris clear or is it clouded? Does it have any marks in it or are the edges blurry?

The photo didn't show up the red eye very well......it is definatly red though, sometimes from certain angles looking a violet sort of colour. Tried shinning a light into it and it was clear, not at all cloudy. No marks or blurry edges either.

It look like it's reflecting light ok. Eyes with problems often reflect differently in photographs.

It may be that just like dogs (and humans) can, she has two different coloured eyes. It's a genetic thing and not neccessarily linked to coat colour. If you are worried I'd get your vet to check it but it looks lovely and clear and both iris and pupil look normal to me - I'm no vet though!

i have a photo of a red eyed piggie that is blind... wait there... and i'll find it for you...

hope this helps....

she could just be like humans and every animal really... just genetics...
does it look cloudy like my piggies does...?

Thanks for your help. Poor Thorn! I think it must be a genetic thing as her eye is not at all cloudy or different in size.

I think you could be right.......she has probably just got different coloured eyes as the both look healthy :)

That is so cool. I never noticed that in a guinea pig. One unique piggy thats for sure
